McNees, Wallace & Nurick is seeking an experienced Attorney to join our growing

State and Local Tax (SALT) practice, with a primary focus on Maryland tax

matters. This role is well‑suited for an attorney who brings deep technical SALT

experience, strong client‑facing skills, and the ability to manage complex

matters with a high degree of independence. The position offers meaningful

responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to help shape and

grow a sophisticated SALT practice in Maryland.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As an Attorney at McNees, you’ll be an integral part of our team, working on
  • meaningful matters and building strong client relationships. Your key

responsibilities will include

  • Case Management: Take ownership of assigned matters from start to finish -

review, analyze, and develop strategies to achieve successful outcomes.

  • Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough research using all available

resources to support case strategies and provide well-informed advice.

  • Document Drafting: Prepare, review, and finalize contracts, pleadings,

agreements, and other legal documents with precision and attention to detail.

  • Client Communication: Serve as a trusted advisor by maintaining regular,

proactive communication with clients about case progress and next steps.

  • Negotiation & Advocacy: Represent clients effectively in negotiations and

work toward favorable resolutions whenever possible.

  • Collaboration: Partner with senior attorneys and colleagues across practice

areas to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.

  • Compliance & Ethics: Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct,

including adherence to state bar requirements and firm policies.

  • Financial Responsibility: Assist in setting retainers, managing payment

schedules, and ensuring timely collection of receivables for assigned cases.

  • Continuous Learning: Stay current with legal developments and complete all

required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) to maintain bar membership.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • 5+ years of experience practicing Maryland state and local tax law
  • Substantial experience with sales and use tax
  • Strong knowledge of Maryland SALT issues; multistate experience, including

PA, highly preferred

  • Admission to practice law in Maryland
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage matters independently
  • Client‑focused mindset with strong interpersonal and business judgment skills
  • Prior experience in a law firm or sophisticated professional services

environment required

$130,000—$200,000 USD
