The Sr. Associate, Tax is an individual contributor responsible for managing the
day-to-day activities related to the company’s consolidated tax provision
process, investment-related tax matters, and tax technical implementation. This
role serves as a technical resource across income tax accounting and emerging
tax legislation, partnering closely with Finance, Treasury, Legal, and external
advisors to ensure compliance and accurate financial reporting.
Tax Provision (ASC 740)
- Manage the consolidation efforts of the annual and income tax provision
process under ASC 740, including current and deferred tax calculations.
- Prepare and review effective tax rate (ETR) analysis including various
management metrics.
- Maintain and reconcile deferred tax assets and liabilities, including the
associated valuation allowance analysis.
- Identify and incorporate the income tax provision impact of intercompany
transactions, separate company calculations, and consolidated return
adjustments.
- Coordinate with external auditors on tax provision review and sign-off;
responding to audit inquiries and information requests.
- Enhance tax provision models, processes, and internal controls to support
accuracy and efficiency.
- Prepare tax footnotes and disclosures for financial statements in compliance
with U.S. GAAP.
Investment Tax
- Manage tax matters related to the company's investment portfolio, including
equity investments, fixed income, alternatives, and derivatives.
- Serve as initial point of contact to facilitate information sharing between
the tax investment strategy team, financial controllership, and tax
operations.
- Coordinate with Treasury and Investment teams on the tax reporting impact of
portfolio transactions, restructurings of existing initiatives, and new
investment vehicles.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of our third-party investment
software, including building an effective relationship with representatives
of the vendor.
Tax Technical Implementation
- Serve as liaison to tax strategy to ensure proper reflection and application
of their analysis, including proposed and enacted tax legislation,
regulations, and IRS guidance.
- Implement tax planning opportunities, including credits, incentives, and
method changes.
- Manage and respond to federal and state tax audits, notices, and information
document requests (IDRs).
- Maintain tax technical library and ensure policies and procedures reflect
current law.
Compliance & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Assist with preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local
income tax returns, including consolidated filings.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Strategic Finance, Legal, and Treasury to
facilitate tax input on business initiatives and financial reporting.
- Support junior tax staff through review, mentoring, and training on tax
concepts and processes.
What You Will Have
- Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.
- 4–7+ years of progressive corporate tax experience in public accounting (Big
4 or national firm) and/or industry.
- Strong expertise in ASC 740 income tax accounting and financial statement tax
reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with investment tax matters, including alternative
investments.
- Strong tax technical research and implementation skills with the ability to
analyze and apply the Internal Revenue Code, regulations, and case law.
- Proficiency with tax provision software (e.g., Corptax) and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to
present complex tax issues clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
- Interest in leveraging technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to
improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Taxation (MST or LLM).
- Experience in financial services, insurance, or investment management
industries.
- Experience with state and local tax (SALT) matters including nexus analysis
and apportionment.
- Exposure to tax technology tools and process automation.
- Experience with Clearwater investment software.

The base salary range for this role is listed below and will be commensurate
with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates may differ based on the
cost of labor in that location. In addition to base salary, all employees are
eligible for an annual bonus based on company and individual performance as well
as a generous benefits package.
Base Salary Range
$110,000—$125,000 USD
