The Role
Andersen is the fastest-growing professional services firm in the country. The Southeast practice is in early stage by design. Managing Directors here are building the practice, not administering one that already exists. That creates unusual latitude for a Senior Manager, as you will have direct access to firm leadership, influence over how the practice develops, and a compensation structure tied to what you build. The work here is practitioner-led. Andersen does not use leverage as a substitute for senior-level attention. Client relationships at this firm belong to the people who build them. Andersen's Southeast Commercial practice is growing—in headcount, client base, and the sophistication of work it takes on. This position is your entry point into a practice that is actively being built by the people you will work alongside every day. The right candidate brings genuine fluency in both corporate and pass-through taxation and knows how to translate that fluency into advice for business owners—not just other tax professionals.
The role offers the opportunity to
Collaborate closely with Managing Directors and practice executives in Charlotte, Atlanta, and Metro D.C. to identify cross-office opportunities and execute on shared pursuits. Foster new client engagements by developing and deepening relationships with business owners, family offices, private-equity-backed portfolio companies, and professional intermediaries — including legal counsel, commercial bankers, and wealth advisors — across the Southeast. Build a visible market presence in the owner-operated and closely-held business community through referral development, speaking, and thought leadership. Deliver integrated tax advice spanning C-corporation, S-corporation, and partnership structures, as well as the stakeholders in those organizations. Serve closely-held and owner-operated businesses across their full lifecycle: entity structuring, compensation and distribution planning, buy-sell agreements, succession planning, and liquidity events — connecting owner-level individual tax considerations to entity-level strategy. Conduct primary and secondary review of complex federal, state, and international tax returns across entity types; identify issues before they reach the client. Maintain ongoing client communication to ensure satisfaction, meet deadlines, and anticipate the impact of legislative change on client positions. Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate Associates and Managers; take accountability for the technical development of your team. Contribute to the culture and operating standards of a practice that is still forming — your habits and judgment will shape how the next generation of practitioners in this office works.
The Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required; Accounting, Finance, Economics or related degree preferred; 8+ years of tax experience in public accounting or a comparable professional services environment; Proven ability to develop and retain client relationships independently; a track record of originating new business or growing existing accounts. Existing professional relationships in the Charlotte, Atlanta, or Metro D.C. markets that are transferable into the Andersen platform are preferred. Demonstrated technical proficiency in both corporate (C-corp and S-corp) and partnership taxation — not as parallel specializations, but as an integrated skillset applied to the same client relationships. Direct experience advising owner-operators, closely-held businesses, or family-owned enterprises, including matters that cross the entity/owner boundary (e.g., compensation design, buy-sell structuring, exit planning). Experience with pass-through entity structures in capital-intensive or operationally complex industries — manufacturing, distribution, transportation, real estate, or similar — where owner-operator tax issues arise with regularity. Familiarity with state and local tax considerations affecting multi-state businesses, including nexus, apportionment, and pass-through entity tax regimes a plus. Experience with international tax matters affecting closely-held or middle-market businesses (inbound investment, cross-border ownership, treaty analysis) is additive but not required. Advanced credential allowing for client representation before the Internal Revenue Service required (i.e. CPA or JD) Comfortable navigating evolving tax technologies and data-driven solutions that support a modern tax practice Compensation and Benefits
