Summary

The Tax Director oversees the income tax function, with a primary focus on U.S.

federal and state income taxes. The role oversees income tax compliance, ASC 740

accounting and reporting, and tax planning, ensuring compliance with applicable

laws and alignment with Kodiak’s strategic and financial objectives as a public

company. The Tax Director reports to the Vice President of Tax and partners

closely with various cross functional teams and external advisors while leading

the income tax team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own the end to end U.S. income tax lifecycle, including compliance,

provision, planning, and controversy.

  • Manage timely and accurate completion of all U.S. income tax filings,

payments, and related reports.

  • Lead the quarterly and annual ASC 740 income tax provision process to

ensure high quality, accurate tax accounting, reporting, and disclosures.

  • Identify and record uncertain tax positions and maintain appropriate

reserves.

  • Oversee recording and reconciliation of all tax-related accounts.
  • Monitor U.S. federal and state tax law, energy industry developments, and

company policies.

  • Identify and execute tax planning strategies and opportunities, including

potential credits and incentives, to optimize effective tax rate and cash taxes

while aligning with the company’s strategic objectives.

  • Provide tax support for strategic business transactions, including

financing, capital investments, mergers or acquisitions, divestitures, through

strong tax forecasting and transactional modeling.

  • Ensure effective internal controls over tax processes, policies, and

supporting documentation while periodically assessing or enhancing control

design and operating effectiveness.

  • Identify and communicate tax issues, risks, and results to management.
  • Recommend and help implement improvements to reporting processes, controls,

and documentation to improve accuracy, responsiveness, and efficiency.

  • Coordinate international reporting and compliance with external advisors,

as applicable.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams on issues relevant to tax and in

support of the accounting and finance function

  • Promote and support the development of the tax team through guidance,

training, mentorship, and feedback, alongside the Vice President, Tax.

  • Enhance or develop knowledge of indirect tax, including sales and use, and

ad valorem tax.

  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and tax

authorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

required

  • Certified Public Accountant required
  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience with a public company, or a

combination of accounting firm and in-house experience

  • Experience with complex organizational structures, including partnerships,

corporations, and joint ventures.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a tax functional team in income tax compliance

and provision

  • Energy (oil & gas, power) industry experience, preferred
  • Experience with International Tax, a plus
  • Exposure or experience with Indirect Tax, a plus

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local tax regulations with ability

to support tax positions through tax research

  • Experience working with tax research software such as CCH, BNA, or

Checkpoint

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with tax software systems

such as Thomson Reuters OneSource

  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively

in a fast paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively

across departments
