PIMCO’s Alternatives platform is a key strategic growth area for the firm,
managing approximately $160billion across a diverse range of investment
strategies and vehicle structures, including evergreen and closed-end funds. As
the platform continues to expand, the Alternatives Funds Tax team plays a
central role in supporting this growth, providing tax planning and structuring
support across the platform.
We are seeking to add a Vice President, Alternatives Tax to join our team. In
this role, you will focus on tax planning and structuring for the firm’s private
equity and hedge funds, with responsibility spanning fund launches, deal
structuring, and ongoing fund compliance oversight. The position offers
significant visibility across the organization and the opportunity to partner
closely with Portfolio Management, Product Strategy, Legal, Finance, Compliance,
Operations, and external service providers, serving as a trusted advisor to the
business.
You will leverage your technical expertise and influence to help shape
investment structures, support new product development, and embed tax
considerations into key business decisions. Your scope will cover the full
lifecycle: from participating in day-one fund and deal structuring through to
ongoing oversight and investor-related matters, providing a forward-looking
perspective on how tax impacts performance, scalability, and outcomes.
This role offers a unique opportunity to move beyond tax compliance and engage
earlier in the lifecycle—contributing to deal structuring, shaping outcomes, and
seeing firsthand how tax decisions impact investment performance and business
growth.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Partner with investment, product, and legal teams on tax structuring of new
fund launches for private equity and hedge funds
- Support deal tax structuring and execution, providing tax insight on
acquisitions, dispositions, and complex investment strategies
(securitizations, special situations, structured credit, real estate).
- Contribute to tax modeling and analysis for prospective investors in new
product initiatives.
- Work with fund counsel and provide tax input on fund documentation, including
LPAs, PPMs, and side letters.
- Oversee and coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely and
accurate K-1 delivery and investor reporting.
- Respond to investor and internal stakeholder inquiries on tax- matters in a
clear, practical, and business-oriented manner.
- Support tax and compliance oversight, including tax provisions, estimated
payments for corporate entities across fund structures.
- Coordinate with service providers and the fund finance team on withholding
tax analysis arising from cash movements across the investment structure,
particularly for non-US investors
- Monitor and support compliance with REIT/RIC structures (e.g., BDC
structures), including income and asset tests.
- Review tax carried interest calculations for carried interest vehicle and
support related tax distribution processes.
- Identify opportunities to enhance workflows, strengthen controls, mitigate
tax risks, and scale the tax operating model as the platform grows.
- Identify and drive opportunities to leverage data, automation, and AI to
enhance decision-making, operating efficiency, and the adoption of scalable
tools and modern capabilities across the business.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
- 10-15 years of experience in tax, with a foundation in public accounting
and/or a combination of public and in-house experience.
- CPA and/or master’s in taxation preferred.
- Strong experience with partnership and corporate taxation, including U.S.
federal, state, and international tax considerations within large fund
structures.
- Experience with multi-tiered partnership structures, including private
equity, hedge funds, and/or real estate, as well as related state tax
compliance and withholding requirements.
- Familiarity with structured credit, securitizations, and specialty
investments (e.g., asset-backed lending, special situations) is highly
desirable.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, high pressure and
fast paced growing business environment.
- Proven ability to translate technical tax concepts into actionable business
insights, with the judgment to identify risks and develop practical
solutions.
- Demonstrated curiosity and interest in understanding the business beyond tax,
with a forward-looking, solution-oriented mindset.
PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which
includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed
component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities,
relevant experience, internal level, and market factors. The discretionary bonus
is used to award performance and therefore is determined by company, business,
team, and individual performance.
Salary Range: $ 175,000.00 - $ 240,000.00
