- Clarios is looking for a Tax Manager to become a key member of its Domestic Tax
- team. Reporting directly to the Domestic Senior Tax Manager, the role will
- collaborate on all aspects of Domestic Tax, including but not limited to the
- U.S. federal and state income tax compliance, quarterly tax provision support,
- state income tax planning, and tax controversy matters. The role requires strong
- technical tax competence in U.S. federal and state income taxation and will
- serve as a key technical resource across the Domestic Tax function. This
- position will support the Clarios Global Tax Reporting team as part of the
- quarterly US tax provision process, coordinate with the US Finance team,
- offshore business center team based in Bratislava, and Clarios Treasury team.
- The role will also work closely with external tax service providers to
- facilitate the efficient and timely completion of federal and state income tax
- filings, while improving the processes, controls, documentation, and automation
- supporting those filings. The role requires a high level of technical
- proficiency of tax compliance and tax accounting in a multinational environment
with U.S. federal, state, and international tax exposure. The successful
candidate must be comfortable applying federal and multi-state income tax
concepts to compliance, provision, planning, tax controversy, and business
expansion matters. The role demands developing leadership qualities, strong
interpersonal skills, a robust desire to get things done, challenge the status
quo, and drive improvements. Domestic Tax is an ambitious team, and we want you
to be ambitious too! This role is a hybrid role. For those living further than 1
hour from our Glendale, WI HQ location, the role would require 1-2 days per week
onsite. For those within 1 hour from our HQ location, our standard hybrid
working policies apply.
At the heart of the role will be responsibility for U.S. federal and state
income tax matters, with a focus on the end-to-end income tax compliance process
and its integration with the quarterly tax provision process. A deep multi-state
income tax competence will be important to success in the role. With high volume
state data, prior involvement in tax automation and transformation efforts is
also ideal. This role will be a key person responsible for state income tax
matters supporting business expansion, nexus and apportionment considerations,
state audit defense, notices, refund claims, and other tax controversy matters.
How you will do it
- Lead and coordinate the Domestic federal and state income tax compliance
processes to ensure adherence to deadlines; work with external tax service
providers and other members of the Clarios tax team to plan, manage, review,
and complete federal and state income tax filings; Ensure compliance
positions are technically supportable and appropriately documented
- Support the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual Domestic
income tax provision computations; assist in coordination of effective tax
rate, uncertain tax positions and cash tax deliverables
- Serve as a key resource for federal and state tax controversy, including
managing responses to taxing authority information requests and notices,
supporting U.S. domestic tax audits, developing technical responses,
coordinating with external advisors where appropriate, and supporting appeals
of tax assessments
- Drive process improvements and automation across the income tax filing
process, including data collection, workpaper preparation, review workflows,
documentation standards, return-to-provision processes, and
compliance/provision data integration; enhance controls and repeatability
across the end-to-end process
- Understand the business and related tax matters and develop the ability to
translate this knowledge into tax planning and forecasting, with particular
focus on state income tax implications of business expansion, manufacturing
footprint changes, legal entity changes, supply chain changes, and other
operational developments
- Research US domestic tax-related issues, and analyze the tax effects of
proposed transactions, including reorganizations, acquisitions, and
divestitures, draft supporting memoranda; provide technical analysis on
federal and state income tax issues, including state filing positions,
apportionment, nexus, income tax accounting implications, and relevant tax
controversy positions
- Monitor and evaluate tax legislation to identify its applicability to the
company and articulate such application; stay current with income tax
accounting requirements and developments
- Assist in the development of less experienced tax team members and the
Domestic tax team, as a function; help build technical capability, process
discipline, and consistent documentation standards across the team
- Support SOX compliance and documentation
What we look for
Required
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in a US domestic tax role,
with meaningful experience in federal and multi-state income tax compliance;
Experience in a Big 4 Public Accounting and multinational corporation is a
plus
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Strong technical competence of US Tax Compliance processes and tax accounting
concepts under ASC 740, including the ability to connect compliance matters
to the quarterly and annual tax provision.
- High competency level with various income tax provision and compliance
software applications including Corptax and OneSource Tax Provision
- Experience with automation tools preferred (i.e., Excel Power Query, Alteryx,
Microsoft Flows, or equivalent), including the ability to identify manual
process steps that can be standardized or automated
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) a
plus, especially as applied to tax requesting, workflow tracking, data
validation, or compliance process management
- Experience with SAP, Sage FAS, and OneStream a plus
- Ability to lead and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment,
including cross-functional coordination with Finance, Treasury, business
operations, external advisors, and offshore support teams
- Basic tax planning skills; strong research skills; ability to develop clear
technical documentation supporting federal and state income tax positions
- Developing leadership skills and demonstrated ownership of complex
compliance, provision, or state tax workstreams
- Minimal travel
- Overtime will be required at peak times

- CPA or equivalent preferred
- MST or other advanced tax degree a plus
