Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

Palo Alto Networks is looking for a Senior Analyst, State Income Taxes to join

the team to support US state and local corporate income tax compliance and

provision processes. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in US state

income tax compliance and tax laws, as well as practical experience in

supporting ASC 740 income tax accounting (state provision).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and review state and local corporate income/franchise tax returns,

extensions, and estimated tax payments using corporate compliance software.

  • Support the quarterly and annual US GAAP state tax provision process,

including calculating state effective tax rates (ETR), state valuation

allowances, deferred taxes, and preparing supporting workpapers.

  • Monitor, analyze, and communicate changes in state tax legislation (such as

apportionment changes, economic nexus laws, and state conformity to federal

tax law) and assess their impact on the company.

  • Assist with the use of technology and advanced applications to help

streamline, automate, and transform state tax compliance and provision

workflows.

  • Assist with state tax audits, responding to information document requests

(IDRs), and identifying potential state tax risks or notice-related issues to

escalate to tax management.

  • Support state planning initiatives, restructuring, and special projects as

needed.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5+ years of related experience focusing on US state and local income

taxes (SALT).

  • Deep knowledge of state and local tax laws, multi-state apportionment

methodologies, combined/unitary filing positions, and ASC 740 state tax

accounting principles.

  • Proficient with Corptax compliance software and Onesource Tax Provision (OTP)

software is required.

  • Proficiency in leveraging AI/ML and GenAI to automate ASC 740 and compliance

workflows, assessing associated risks.

  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate independently, manage multiple state deadlines, and thrive

in a dynamic, fast-paced environment across multiple time zones.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to distill complex state tax

laws into actionable internal insights.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous Big 4 or large corporate experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Alteryx and SAP is a major plus for data manipulation and

workflow automation.
