Tax Strategy and Planning Manager

  • Location: Columbus, OH office (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)
  • New role created to support ongoing commercial development deals and provide

tax planning support.

Summary

The Tax Strategy and Planning Manager is responsible for strategic tax planning

and compliance for complex business initiatives and transactions. It involves

advising on tax implications for infrastructure and energy projects, reviewing

contractual tax provisions, and supporting acquisitions and divestments. The

role requires strong technical research skills to address intricate tax issues

and proactive monitoring of legislative changes to safeguard the company's tax

position. Success in this role demands exceptional analytical ability, clear

communication with senior leadership, and collaborative problem-solving across

finance, legal, and business teams. The Manager is a self-motivated team player

with proven tax technical expertise, organizational strength, effective

communication, and project management skills. Known for producing high-quality,

timely work, the Manager demonstrates flexibility, intellectual curiosity, and a

commitment to continuous improvement in processes, deliverables, and

professional expertise.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including tax, finance, legal, and

business development, to ensure alignment of tax planning strategies and deal

execution.

  • Advise on the tax implications of new business initiatives, including

infrastructure development and energy-related projects.

  • Conduct technical tax research and prepare memoranda and supporting

documentation on complex tax issues.

  • Review and provide guidance on tax-related provisions in commercial

contracts, particularly those involving data center development, energy

procurement, and regulated entities.

  • Monitor and assess the impact of legislative and regulatory developments on

the company’s tax position and strategy.

  • Support tax analysis for acquisitions, transfers, divestments, and other

complex transactions, including structuring and risk evaluation.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree In Accounting or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of public accounting and/or corporate tax experience at a

publicly traded company,

  • Strong analytical, technical, and research skills.
  • Skilled in drafting clear and persuasive technical memos and presentations

for both tax professionals and business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership and deliver accurate, timely results.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to tailor messaging for senior

leadership, as well as train and support staff and business partners.

  • Collaborative problem-solver with a track record of building consensus around

tax solutions.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

simultaneously.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Upon Hire

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited university
  • 1-3 years Tax contract review experience
  • 1-3 years Utility industry experience

Salary Range*

  • $133,400.00 - $200,100.00
  • *The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not
  • limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant
  • experience, as well as internal pay equity.
