- Customs Compliance & Logistics Coordinator
- This is a 6mth contract role
- Purpose
- Responsible for timely and safe transportation of both HMH and customer owned
equipment.
- Responsible for the organisation, control and safe management of incoming and
outgoing HMH and customer owned goods domestically and internationally.
Accountabilities
- Ensure all import and export activities are carried out in compliance with UK
customs legislation and company procedures.
- Coordinate the efficient movement of goods to meet operational and customer
requirements.
- Maintain effective relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers and
internal stakeholders to support the smooth movement of goods.
- Ensure customs and shipping records are accurate, complete and audit ready.
- Identify customs and logistics risks, escalating issues and supporting
continuous improvement.
- Provide operational support to warehouse, project, and planning teams as
required.
Deliveries
- Prepare and process shipping documentation for domestic and international
shipments.
- Issue accurate customs clearance instructions to freight agents.
- Review customs declarations to ensure they align with commercial
documentation, company instructions, and UK customs requirements.
- Monitor import and export shipments, resolving customs and logistics issues
to minimise delays.
- Monitor the performance of freight agents and challenge discrepancies or
errors in customs declarations.
- Verify the correct application of commodity codes, customs procedures,
valuation, origin and Ex works.
- Maintain accurate customs and shipping records to support compliance and
audit requirements.
- Ensure goods entered under the Inward Processing Authorisation are managed in
accordance with the authorisation conditions and internal procedures.
- Maintain accurate records to support Inward Processing compliance, including
traceability of goods and supporting documentation.
- Identify and escalate customs compliance risks and propose corrective actions
where appropriate.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders and freight agents to support compliant and
efficient customs operations.
- Maintain accurate overview of material movements using Ex works.
- Expedite shipment of all critical components to meet operational
requirements.
- Provide solutions to shipping discrepancies to help accelerate component
delivery.
- Verify that HTS codes are being assigned correctly for tax calculation
purposes.
- Liaise with global Logistics team to input and share best practice.
- Provide support to Warehouse team, loading and unloading shipments as
required.
- Complete accurate put away and picking transactions to reflect material
movement.
- Provide control and overview to customer owned equipment across the site.

Competence Requirements
- Good understanding of UK customs legislation and import/export procedures.
- Experience working with HMRC special procedures, particularly Inward
Processing Authorisations, and an understanding of the associated compliance
and record-keeping requirements.
- Knowledge of customs declarations and the key data elements required for
compliant import and export movements.
- Understanding of commodity classification, customs valuation, origin, and Ex
Works.
- Ability to transact using Ex Works.
- Ability to operate a counterbalance forklift (B1 classification) and Reach
truck.
- Manual handling awareness.
- Ability to work with multiple and competing priorities.
- Achieve results with minimum supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritise competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
- Working knowledge of service order, warehouse management, and
logistics/shipping functionalities within SAP 4 HANA.
