
Customs Controller
Role description
From the employerBlack & Grey HR is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Customs Controller with 5+ years of experience in the freight forwarding industry. The role is
responsible for overseeing end-to-end import and export customs clearance
activities, ensuring full compliance with UAE and GCC customs regulations, and
minimizing operational risks. The ideal candidate will serve as the key point
of contact with customs authorities and support seamless cargo movement across
borders.
Customs Clearance & Operations
- Manage
end-to-end import and export customs clearance for air, sea, and land
shipments.
- Review
and verify customs declarations, invoices, packing lists, COO, and other
supporting documentation.
- Ensure
accurate HS code classification, customs valuation, and application of
duties, VAT, and exemptions.
- Coordinate
with operations, documentation teams, transporters, and clearing agents to
ensure smooth cargo flow.
- Monitor
shipment status to proactively prevent delays, inspections, penalties,
fines, or clearance issues.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure
strict adherence to UAE customs laws, Dubai Customs regulations, and GCC
trade requirements.
- Stay
updated on tariff amendments, regulatory changes, and compliance
guidelines impacting freight forwarding operations.
- Manage
rules of origin requirements and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) documentation
where applicable.
- Maintain
accurate, audit-ready records in line with customs authority requirements.
- Resolve
customs discrepancies, inspection findings, and clearance disputes
efficiently.
Authority & Stakeholder Liaison
- Act
as the primary point of contact with Dubai Customs and other GCC Customs
Authorities
- Handle
customs inspections, queries, clarifications, and documentation requests.
- Build
and maintain strong working relationships with customs officials and
regulatory bodies.
Internal Advisory & Process Improvement
- Provide
guidance to operations and sales teams on customs compliance requirements.
- Train
internal staff on documentation standards, classification accuracy, and
compliance best practices.
- Identify process gaps
and recommend improvements to reduce compliance risks and clearance time
Requirements
- Bachelor’s
degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or related field.
- Minimum
5+ years of experience in customs clearance within a freight forwarding
company.
- Strong
knowledge of: UAE
customs procedures and E-Mirsal systems, HS
code classification and tariff application, Customs
valuation methods, Rules
of Origin and trade compliance regulations
- Experience
handling air, sea, and land freight shipments.
- Strong
coordination and problem-solving skills.
- Ability
to manage high shipment volumes under tight deadlines.
- Excellent
communication skills in English (Arabic is an advantage).
