The Customs team leader is responsible for overseeing import and export activities in compliance with applicable regulations and Siemens corporate policies. The role ensures the consistent execution of import and export operations and adherence to customs strategies, procedures, controls, and operational requirements developed and established by the Customs governance department.
Essential Job Functions
- Coordinate and review the import and export processes for raw materials and finished products and fixed assets.
- Validate customs declarations, conduct Annex 24 and Annex 31 audits, and ensure that operations are closed out without negatively impacting costs or timelines.
- Escalating operational customs risks, exceptions, and compliance concerns Customs governance in a timely manner.
- Support procurement, finance, and supply chain teams in logistics matters.
- Ensure accurate processing of US customs entries and trade documentation.
- Generate sub-maquila reports and perform BOM explosion analyses to support IMMEX and PROSEC requirements.
- Monitor offsets and reconciliations between internal systems and reports from the authorities.
- Manage, train, and coordinate department staff, as well as maintain communication with customs brokers and carriers.
- Ensures the implementation and oversight of customs regulations, processes, and procedures within the assigned area of responsibility.
- Develops, implements, and enforces guidelines, solutions, and plans to optimize processes.
- Implement customs guidelines regarding existing processes and adapt processes in a timely manner to reflect legal changes.
- Lead CTPAT process certification and maintenance.
Summary of Requirements (Qualifications, Experience, Skills)
- Bachelor’s degree in international Trade or related field
- 3 to 5 years (or more) in customs, logistics, and foreign trade departments, preferably in an IMMEX environment.
- Customs Law, foreign trade regulations, and international treaties.
- Advanced proficiency in IMMEX, PROSEC, VUCEM, Annex 24, and Annex 31.
- Advanced use of software, preferably PRISMA.
- ERPs (SAP preferred) and customs inventory control systems
- Familiarity with supply chain security programs such as CTPAT and OEA.
- Analytical skills, very good judgment, decision making, negotiation, persuasion, dynamic oriented business, people orientation.
- Strong communication skills.
- High level of motivation and problem solving.
- Advanced English required
