This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director – Global Tax based in Canada.

This leadership role offers the opportunity to shape and oversee global tax strategy within a fast-growing, international technology environment.

You will serve as the primary tax advisor, driving compliance, risk management, and strategic planning across multiple jurisdictions.

The position combines technical tax expertise with business partnership, supporting complex cross-border operations, transactions, and growth initiatives.

You will work closely with finance, legal, executive leadership, and external advisors to deliver practical, value-driven solutions.

Accountabilities

The Director – Global Tax will lead the organization’s global tax function, providing strategic guidance across international operations while ensuring compliance and identifying opportunities to support sustainable growth. This role requires strong ownership of complex tax matters, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to translate technical expertise into practical business solutions.

Develop and execute global tax strategies aligned with business objectives and international expansion plans.

Lead tax planning and compliance activities across domestic and international operations.

Structure and review cross-border transactions, intercompany agreements, financing arrangements, and intellectual property ownership models.

Manage tax considerations related to mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, financings, and strategic partnerships.

Oversee transfer pricing strategies, documentation, and compliance requirements with external advisors.

Provide expertise on Canadian federal and provincial taxation matters, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, sales taxes, payroll taxes, withholding taxes, and audits.

Advise on U.S. tax implications and international tax considerations affecting business operations.

Support employee international mobility tax matters and related compliance requirements.

Partner with finance and accounting teams on reporting, audits, tax authority interactions, and regulatory obligations.

Monitor changes in tax legislation across relevant jurisdictions and implement appropriate governance strategies.

Build and improve internal tax policies, controls, and risk management frameworks.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced tax leader with deep expertise in international taxation, strong business judgment, and the ability to manage complex matters across multiple regions. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge, strategic thinking, and strong communication skills.

Bachelor’s degree in Law, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

Master’s degree in Taxation or completion of an advanced tax specialization program is preferred.

CPA designation or membership in good standing with a Canadian or international law society.

5–10 years of relevant experience in international tax, ideally gained within a leading professional services firm, law firm, or multinational in-house tax department.

Strong expertise in Canadian corporate taxation and cross-border tax matters.

U.S. tax experience is strongly preferred.

Proven experience with international tax planning, transfer pricing, and global compliance.

Experience supporting technology, SaaS, software, fintech, or intellectual property-driven businesses is highly valued.

Background in mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing, and corporate reorganizations is an asset.

Strong analytical, writing, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and advise senior stakeholders.

Excellent business acumen with a practical, solution-oriented approach.

English proficiency required; French language skills considered an asset.
