About Progress Partners

We are a multinational group operating a fast-scaling SaaS business, with strong presence around the globe, notably in Hong Kong. We currently operate a portfolio of SaaS products serving customers in more than 150 countries and reaching millions of users every month. Our products are consumer software applications across several categories, including AI, productivity, and utility software.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced in-house tax professional to join our team. This role is ideal for a strategic, business-minded tax specialist with expertise in Canadian and U.S. taxation, preferably within the technology sector. We are looking for someone who takes full ownership of the tax function and proactively identifies risks and opportunities.

The successful candidate will serve as the lead tax subject matter expert for all tax-related matters across the organization. This individual will support both domestic and international operations, cross-border structuring, mergers and acquisitions, transfer pricing, indirect tax compliance, and tax risk management initiatives. The role requires close collaboration with finance, legal, executive leadership, and external advisors to support tax-efficient growth and ensure compliance with tax obligations across multiple jurisdictions.

What You’ll Do

  • Support international tax planning and compliance for global subsidiaries and operations.
  • Structure and review cross-border transactions, intercompany agreements, financing arrangements, and intellectual property ownership models.
  • Lead the tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations, financings, and strategic partnerships.
  • Oversee transfer pricing policies and documentation in collaboration with external advisors.
  • Provide advice regarding Canadian federal and provincial tax matters, including corporate income tax, GST/HST, provincial sales taxes, payroll taxes, withholding taxes, and tax audits.

Advise on U.S. tax implications of the group’s operations.

Provide guidance on employee international mobility tax considerations.

Partner with finance and accounting teams on tax reporting, audits, disputes, and compliance obligations with tax authorities.

Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in relevant international jurisdictions, Canada and the United States.

Develop and implement internal tax governance policies and tax risk management strategies.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Law, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Taxation or completion of the In-Depth Tax Program.
  • CPA designation or membership in good standing with a Canadian or international law society.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of relevant experience in international tax, ideally gained within a leading law firm, Big Four firm, or the in-house tax department of a multinational organization.
  • Strong expertise in cross-border tax matters and Canadian corporate taxation.

U.S. tax expertise strongly preferred.

Experience with international tax planning, transfer pricing, and global tax compliance.

Prior experience supporting technology, SaaS, software, fintech, or intellectual property-driven businesses strongly preferred.

Experience with mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financing, and corporate reorganizations highly desirable.

Strong business acumen with the ability to provide practical and results-oriented advice.

Excellent writing, analytical, and negotiation skills.

Ability to work independently and manage complex matters across multiple jurisdictions.

Bilingualism (English required; French considered an asset).

Nice to Have

Experience with multinational or high-growth technology organizations.

Strong understanding of international tax strategies for technology groups.
