  • Role Summary

The Tax Director, Pfizer China, will lead execution and coordination of key China tax workstreams, with responsibility for tax compliance governance, VAT and other China tax technical matters, tax authority engagement, controversy support, business advisory and implementation of tax planning initiatives. The role will serve as a key China tax contact for Finance, business teams, Global Tax, Global TP CoE, external advisors and tax / customs authorities, helping ensure accurate and timely filings, effective risk management, practical governance, and sustainable tax outcomes for Pfizer China.

The position requires strong China tax technical knowledge, sound judgment, cross-functional coordination, and ability to translate tax requirements into practical business actions. The role is expected to manage complexity, support business decisions, strengthen compliance discipline, and contribute to process improvement and capability building within the China tax function. The role will also provide value-added tax guidance to support management decision-making and ensure tax considerations are appropriately incorporated into business initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

  • China direct tax compliance and governance: Lead day-to-day tax compliance execution, reporting routines, documentation discipline, controls follow-up and audit readiness across relevant China tax activities.
  • VAT and indirect tax leader ship: Lead VAT compliance processes, support VAT technical position analysis, coordinate VAT zero-rate filing matters, and identify opportunities to improve VAT efficiency and process quality.
  • Tax controversy and authority engagement: Manage assigned tax audits, assessments and authority communications; prepare technical analysis and recommended positions; coordinate escalation of material risks and support audit defense execution.
  • Business advisory and project support: Provide practical tax advisory support to Finance, business units, HR, Legal, PGS and other stakeholders, including business development transactions and customs-related matters.
  • Process improvement and stakeholder coordination: Work with internal teams and external advisors to improve tax processes, maintain clear roles and responsibilities, and support consistent execution of tax requirements.

Role Responsibilities

  • Monitor China tax and financial regulatory developments; assess potential impact and support communication of required actions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead daily tax compliance tasks including tax filings, forecasts, analysis and reporting, ensuring alignment with tax regulations, accounting principles, corporate policies and procedures.
  • Lead VAT compliance processes to support timely and accurate filings, including VAT calculation review, return submission and related documentation.
  • Lead VAT technical analysis and recommend appropriate tax treatment for relevant transactions and business activities.
  • Support projects seeking favorable tax treatment for business activities, including VAT zero-rate applications and available government subsidies.
  • Coordinate with Customs authorities and internal stakeholders to support appropriate duty / customs treatment and related compliance matters.
  • Prepare tax reports, analysis and documentation within required timelines.
  • Manage assigned tax audits, tax assessments and tax authority communications, including preparation of technical support and response materials.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external advisors to resolve tax matters effectively and maintain constructive authority relationships.
  • Identify tax risks, control gaps and process improvement opportunities; escalate material issues in a timely and practical manner.
  • Provide tax advisory support to Finance, business units, HR, Legal, PGS and other stakeholders on China tax matters.
  • Support local business development by providing tax analysis, data support and implementation coordination.
  • Answer internal and external tax-related queries and support practical resolution of tax issues affecting business operations.
  • Support relevant APAC tax planning matters where China input or coordination is required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance or other relevant subjects.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant tax experience; Big 4 / tax firm experience and multinational company experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of China tax regulations, with solid experience in VAT / indirect tax and sufficient direct tax knowledge to support broader China tax matters.
  • Experience with major ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP preferred.
  • Strong integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters appropriately.
  • Strong analytical, judgment, stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines and coordinate multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English and Chinese.
  • Strong AI and Microsoft Excel capability and commercial / business awareness.
