From the employer**About The Role**
As Volta's European VAT Manager, you'll own VAT compliance and strategy across our European entities, ensuring we meet our obligations accurately and on time in every jurisdiction we operate in. You'll work closely with Finance, Legal, and external advisors to manage VAT registrations, filings, and audits, while helping the business navigate the evolving European tax landscape as we grow.
This is a great opportunity for a VAT specialist who wants ownership over a critical compliance area and the chance to shape how Volta manages indirect tax as it scales across new markets.
**What You Will Be Doing**
- Manage end-to-end VAT compliance across Volta's European entities, including timely and accurate VAT return filings
- Oversee VAT registrations in new jurisdictions as Volta expands, coordinating with local advisors where needed
- Monitor changes in EU and local VAT legislation, assessing the impact on Volta's operations and updating processes accordingly
- Partner with Finance to ensure VAT is correctly applied across invoicing, billing systems, and intercompany transactions
- Lead or support VAT audits and inquiries from tax authorities, preparing documentation and responses
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities to streamline VAT compliance
- Provide VAT guidance to internal stakeholders on new products, contracts, or business models
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors across relevant European jurisdictions
- Maintain accurate VAT records and documentation to support internal and external audits
**What You Bring**
- 5+ years of experience in VAT/indirect tax, ideally including in-house experience at a multi-jurisdictional company or time at a Big 4 or advisory firm
- Strong technical knowledge of EU VAT rules and experience managing compliance across multiple European jurisdictions
- Professional tax or accounting qualification (e.g., CTA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent) preferred
- Experience managing VAT registrations, filings, and audits directly with tax authorities or through local advisors
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with ERP or billing systems to assess VAT treatment
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain VAT requirements clearly to non-tax stakeholders
- A proactive, detail-oriented approach, comfortable managing multiple jurisdictions and deadlines at once
- Experience working in a fast-growing or international business is a plus
