The Role

The Manager, Financial Reporting & Tax (FRT) will provide experienced technical and operational support to the Asia Financial Reporting & Tax team. The role covers PL Re’s branches in Singapore and Korea, and representative offices in Japan and China, together with its Singapore service company, with a focus on meeting local statutory, regulatory and tax reporting requirements. The role will also provide cover and support for Australia reporting as required.

As an experienced member of the team, the role will provide guidance and practical support to other managers in the FRT team, while assisting the Assistant Vice President (AVP), Financial Reporting & Tax with the coordination and delivery of the team strategic priorities. The role requires sound judgement, strong technical capability and the ability to work effectively across multiple jurisdictions and reporting frameworks.

The role will contribute directly to quarter-end and year-end activities, including the preparation and review of statutory accounts, regulatory returns and related deliverables. The position combines technical oversight with hands-on execution to strengthen delivery capacity during peak reporting periods and support accurate, timely and well-controlled outcomes.

The role will contribute and support on the back office transformation projects, Unify and Blue, as well as support on other finance-related projects.

The role works closely with Financial Management & Treasury, Financial Planning & Analysis, Operations and Corporate Actuarial, as well as external auditors, advisers and relevant regulatory stakeholders.

Duties

  • Provide experienced, hands-on support for the preparation and review of statutory accounts and regulatory returns for the Asia branches and subsidiaries. This includes:

Support the preparation and review of accurate and timely financial information for statutory and regulatory reporting, including MAS returns for the Singapore branch and FSS returns for the Korea branch.

Respond to ad hoc requests and queries from internal and external stakeholders.

Provide hands-on support with day-to-day statutory reporting activities, quarter-end close tasks and return preparation.

Support the preparation of annual K-IFRS and SFRS financial statements, disclosures, variance explanations and materials for Board approval.

Apply robust review processes and internal controls to support compliance with internal policies and applicable tax, statutory accounting and regulatory requirements.

Support year-end and ad hoc audits by coordinating inputs, following up on deliverables and helping the team meet agreed timelines.

Provide cover and support for Australia reporting as required.

  • Support the development and effectiveness of the Financial Reporting & Tax team in Asia. This includes:

Work collaboratively with other managers, providing practical guidance and support as needed.

Coach and develop junior colleagues, share technical knowledge and provide effective support to the AVP in managing team priorities and deliverables.

  • Provide support across tax compliance activities, including:

Review of corporate tax computation, VAT/GST returns, withholding taxes and other tax filings in Singapore, Korea, and other Asian jurisdictions

Attend to queries from IRAS/NTS and internal parties

Review transfer pricing and other tax-related documentation.

  • Support the AVP, Financial Reporting & Tax with accounting and transformation initiatives, working with broader project teams and local team members to improve reporting processes, controls and ways of working.

Skills & Experience

Technical expertise

  • Chartered Accountancy qualified or equivalent
  • At least six years’ post qualified experience in financial operations, statutory reporting or regulatory reporting within life insurance or reinsurance, including experience operating at manager level
  • Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Singapore Financial Reporting Standards, MAS statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, and the related control framework
  • Good understanding of corporate income tax, GST and withholding tax regulations
  • Advanced Excel skills, proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, and experience with accounting systems such as Oracle or PeopleSoft
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, review processes and financial reporting procedures

Industry knowledge

  • Experience in life insurance or reinsurance
  • Experience with IFRS 17 reporting or implementation is preferred but not essential
  • Exposure to Korean or broader Asian regulatory, statutory reporting or tax frameworks is desirable

Personal skills

  • Collaborative, with experience managing cross-regional and/or cross-functional teams
  • Organised, deadline-focused and detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently while remaining hands-on during peak reporting periods
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
