Role Name: Global Trade Compliance Specialist

Department: Manufacturing Logistics

Location: Hayward

**About 1X**

We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.

To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the *hard work* is in front of us.

NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.

If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.

**About the Team:**

The Logistics team enables 1X to build and deliver robots globally. As our manufacturing footprint expands, the team ensures materials move efficiently across borders while meeting increasingly complex international trade regulations. Their work protects the business, supports operational scale, and keeps global production moving without interruption.

  • Develop and maintain robust trade compliance programs, policies, SOPs, and internal controls that minimize regulatory risk and support global growth.
  • Optimize customs, duty, FTZ, and Free Trade Agreement opportunities while ensuring compliance with applicable international trade regulations.
  • Maintain accurate tariff classifications, country of origin determinations, export control assessments, and denied party screening processes.
  • Partner cross-functionally to prepare for audits, respond to regulatory inquiries, monitor changing global trade requirements, and continuously improve compliance processes.

**Key Competencies:**

  • Deep expertise in global import/export regulations with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply practical business solutions.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills with a proactive approach to identifying compliance gaps and process improvements.
  • Excellent judgment balancing regulatory compliance with operational efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Collaborative communicator who effectively partners with internal stakeholders, customs brokers, government agencies, and external partners.

**Minimum Requirements:**

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in global trade compliance supporting manufacturing or multinational operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), HTS classification, export controls, Free Trade Agreements, denied party screening, and customs compliance.
  • Experience supporting trade activity across multiple international regions, including North America, EMEA, and APAC.
  • Experience managing customs brokers, trade compliance vendors, or third-party logistics partners.
  • Experience working with ERP and/or Global Trade Management (GTM) systems

**Preferred Skills:**

  • Licensed Customs Broker (LCB).
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS).
  • Experience managing Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ), duty drawback programs, and CTPAT initiatives.
  • Experience supporting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) audits, validations, or government inquiries.
  • Experience developing global trade compliance programs within a rapidly scaling manufacturing or hardware organization.
