Job Summary
- As an Income & Franchise Tax SALT Senior Manager, you'll work closely with
- Partners, staff, and clients and be responsible for leading complex state and
- local tax compliance and consulting engagements, providing strategic guidance to
- clients, and driving growth within the SALT practice. This individual will serve
- as a trusted advisor to clients, mentor and develop team members, contribute to
- business development initiatives, and play a key role in shaping the strategic
- direction of the practice.

- ever-changing tax laws. In addition to providing income and franchise tax
- compliance support services, our SALT team advises clients on multi-state tax
- planning, nexus considerations, audit support, credits and incentives, and the
- state tax implications of business transactions and expansions.
- Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary relationship leader for a portfolio of clients,
providing proactive tax planning and strategic state and local tax guidance.
- Lead and oversee complex SALT consulting and compliance engagements,
including planning, budgeting, execution, risk management, and delivery.
- Review multi-state income and franchise tax returns for corporations and
passthrough entities.
- Advise clients on nexus, apportionment methodologies, filing positions, tax
minimization strategies, credits and incentives, restructuring transactions,
and other state tax planning opportunities.
- Research and analyze complex state tax issues; develop technical memoranda
and present findings and recommendations to clients and firm leadership.
- Lead state tax controversy matters, including audits, notices, appeals, and
voluntary disclosure agreements.
- Identify and drive opportunities to expand existing client relationships and
develop new business opportunities for the SALT practice.
- Participate in networking, marketing, and business development activities,
including proposal preparation, presentations, and thought leadership
initiatives.
- Collaborate with Partners and leaders across service lines to deliver
integrated client solutions.
- Mentor, coach, and develop Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates;
foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
- Review engagement work product and ensure technical excellence, quality
control, and adherence to firm standards.
- Assist with practice management initiatives, including staffing, resource
planning, workflow optimization, and profitability management.
- Stay current on legislative and regulatory developments impacting state and
local taxation and communicate impacts to clients and internal stakeholders.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree in Accounting.
- Active CPA license required.
- 8+ years of progressive public accounting experience, with significant
experience in state and local tax consulting and compliance.
- Strong technical expertise in multi-state income and franchise tax matters.
- Demonstrated success leading complex SALT consulting engagements and serving
as a trusted advisor to clients.
- Proven business development experience, including identifying opportunities,
expanding client relationships, and supporting revenue growth initiatives.
- Experience managing and developing tax professionals at multiple levels,
including Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple complex
engagements and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in tax preparation and research software (e.g., CCH Axcess) and
Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exceptional analytical, leadership, relationship management, and
communication skills.
- Experience presenting technical tax concepts and recommendations to
executive-level client stakeholders.
