Indirect Tax Manager
Role description
From the employerYamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Manager of Indirect Tax to join our
Tax Division in Kennesaw, GA. In this role, you will lead the organization’s
indirect tax compliance activities to ensure full adherence to state and local
tax laws. You will oversee multi-state / jurisdictions indirect tax, annual
reports, and business licenses reporting, manage sales/use and property tax
audits, and partner with executive leadership to support business decisions with
expert tax guidance. The Manager of Indirect Tax manages a Senior / Staff Tax
Accountant, drives process improvements, and ensures accurate, timely tax and
business report filings.
What you'll be doing
- Manage, review, and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual multi-state and
local sales & use tax returns, journal entries, and tax account
reconciliations, and manage exemption certificates.
- Manage, review, and prepare other federal, state, and local indirect tax
registrations, filings and payments, including but not limited to excise tax,
business licenses, and annual reports.
- Manage, review, and prepare annual business property tax renditions and real
and business property tax payments, and prepare property tax budgets and
expense accruals.
- Manage tax audits and respond to notices as needed.
- Research, analyze, and provide guidance on indirect tax issues.
- Monitor current tax rules, regulations, and tax rates, and create reference
matrices.
- Manage senior / staff tax accountant.
- Improve processes.
- Supporting tax planning and structuring of transactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you need to be successful
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA license preferred
- 8+ years of compliance experience in multistate sales/use tax, property tax,
and excise tax, with combined experience in large CPA firms and in-house tax
departments
- 3+ years managing tax staff
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of software applications
(Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) with at least intermediate level Excel
skills, Enterprise Resource Planning systems (SAP preferred), tax research
software, and compliance software (Vertex)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and written & verbal communication skills
- Strong technical foundation in US indirect tax
- Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and multi-tasking skills
with attention to detail required
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with internal
corporate business partners, external auditors, and tax authorities
- Ability to be flexible to meet demanding deadlines and time schedules
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-starter
Decision Making
- The Indirect Tax Manager is expected to self-direct and make final decisions
around day-to-day indirect tax compliance matters, with minimal supervision
and guidance from the Director of Tax. The Indirect Tax Manager will discuss
and review technical issues with the Director of Tax where appropriate and
has authority to process transactions / tax payments within the limits
associated with the job level.
