  • $128,320 to $160,400 in Portland, ME
  • $141,120 to $176,400 in Orange, CT
  • $147,520 to $184,400 in Boston, MA

Job Summary

This role leads the management of all Networks segment property‑tax

responsibilities, including tax compliance, cost recovery, tax planning, risk

mitigation, and financial reporting (both GAAP and IFRS). The Tax Manager

provides strategic insight and technical information through cross functional

knowledge sharing (with Avangrid Networks’ Regulatory, Finance, Engineering, and

Capital Accounting teams) and sponsorship/development of property tax budgets,

forecasts, and other cost recovery projections. This individual also leads

appeal, abatement, and PILOT initiatives. This person will also collaborate

across functions to identify and prioritize automation opportunities and drive

process improvements that enhance data integrity, operational efficiency, and

oversight effectiveness. The successful candidate brings multistate property tax

expertise, strong regulatory knowledge or aptitude, and a deep understanding of

business processes and systems—skills that will be used to modernize property

tax administration and compliance.

A key focus of this role is partnering with the Director of Indirect Tax to

build and scale Avangrid’s in‑house property tax organization, reflecting the

company’s commitment to operational excellence and long‑term development

capability. This role supports ongoing property tax operations and plays an

active part in recruiting and developing a high‑performing team.

In support of these objectives, the Tax Manager will advance data administration

improvements, reporting modernization, and planning capabilities, including

oversight of the annual property tax budget. The role also supports the

implementation and optimization of tax technology solutions, including ERP

integrations, property tax systems, and data analytics tools. The Tax Manager

will build strong working relationships across the business to enhance asset

data governance, tax forecasting, and regulatory reporting processes, while

applying effective communication and leadership skills to manage competing

priorities, support enterprise initiatives, and promote consistent, efficient,

and sustainable property tax operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation, review, and filing of all property tax returns and

related documentation for the company’s regulated utility assets.

  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of property taxes, including the

reconciliation of tax bills and assessments.

  • Monitor changes in property tax laws, regulations, and rate cases that impact

the company, and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.

  • Coordinate and manage property tax audits, appeals, and negotiations with

taxing authorities.

  • Support regulatory filings and rate case proceedings by providing property

tax data, analysis, and expert testimony as needed.

  • Develop and implement strategies for minimizing property tax liabilities

while ensuring full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Collaborate with finance, accounting, legal, and operations teams to gather

data, assess asset values, and communicate tax implications.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date property tax records, reports, and

documentation for internal and external review.

  • Advise management on property tax risks, exposures, and opportunities for tax

savings.

  • Supervise and mentor property tax staff, fostering professional growth and

ensuring high performance.

Required Qualifications

  • BS/BA Degree and at least 10 years relevant experience; or equivalent

combination of education and experience.

  • Prior indirect tax and successful project management experience.
  • Ability to articulate complex tax concepts to a variety of audiences and at

all levels of organization.

  • Successful people leader capable of using business knowledge and concerns to

foster successful team application to growth and process improvement.

  • Experience cultivating strong relationships with internal and external

partners to foster collaboration.

  • Significant GAAP accounting experience. IFRS experience a plus.
  • Forward looking, with a holistic approach and a track record of innovation

and problem solving.

  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a demanding, rapidly changing business

environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Advanced degree, CPA Certification/CMI or equivalent experience.
  • Alteryx and/or other ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) data management tools.
  • SAP (including S4/HANA). System upgrade or migration support experience.
  • Machine learning and AI for digital transformation of tax data analysis.

Property Tax database implementation and administration.

  • Energy or Utility experience.
  • Tax law research and analysis experience.
