The role

Join our team as a senior fuels tax auditor! In this role, you will apply tax laws, review financial records, and work with a wide range of people. You will conduct compliance audits, prepare audit plans and reports, work with other auditors, and assist internal and external customers while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision. A day in the life

  • Create an audit program to identify case specific issues.
  • Perform office and field audits alone and collaboratively with other auditors.
  • Review prior audit files, tax payment history and licensee communications to determine the level of audit examination.
  • Perform audit procedures to verify compliance with fuels tax law which includes reviewing receipts, sales, records and other data.
  • Prepare the written audit report and recommendations for improvement.
  • Review the work performed by other auditors.

Respond to internal and external customers requesting help with fuels tax licensing, accounting or reporting and interpret complex statutes, rules and policies verbally and in writing.

Train and mentor new auditors.

In-state and out-of-state travel, including air and automobile travel with lodging as needed, may be required. Overnight travel up to six weeks a year may be required.

May lift up to 30 pounds and push, pull or move storage boxes or records.

The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.

Minimum qualifications

Six years of experience in tax auditing, audit defense, or professional accounting (one of the six years of experience may be in tax compliance, tax preparation, providing law training, or developing tax forms or instructions); AND 32 credit hours in accounting or other equivalent certification, training, or coursework.

Note: A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field will substitute for up to three years of experience.

Special qualifications

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid U.S. driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
