Senior Manager – Indirect Tax

**About the Role**

We are seeking a Senior Manager - Indirect Tax to join our Group Tax team on an 18-month fixed term contract through to the end of March 2028. Based in Brisbane or Sydney and working 4 days per week (0.8 FTE), you'll lead the delivery of indirect tax compliance, reporting and advisory services across Suncorp's Australian operations.

Reporting to the Head of Tax, you'll provide trusted GST and indirect tax advice, oversee regulatory engagement and lead a high-performing team. Working across Insurance, Claims, Product, Technology, Finance and Operations, you'll support informed decision-making while ensuring Suncorp maintains a proactive and well-governed approach to indirect tax.

**What You'll Do**

• Lead Suncorp's indirect tax compliance and reporting activities, including the preparation, review and lodgement of Business Activity Statements (BAS), ensuring all obligations are delivered accurately and within statutory timeframes, including where activities are performed by external providers or teams outside the tax function.
• Provide commercially focused indirect tax advice across a broad range of business initiatives, helping stakeholders navigate complex GST and indirect tax matters.
• Manage relationships with the Australian Taxation Office and external advisors, coordinating reviews, including Justified Trust engagements, preparing evidence packs and position papers, and handling information requests and compliance activities with professionalism and rigour.
• Operationalise and strengthen indirect tax governance frameworks, embedding effective controls, assurance practices and risk management processes across business operations.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of tax professionals, creating a collaborative environment focused on technical excellence, accountability and continuous learning.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, systems and reporting practices, supporting efficient and effective delivery of tax services across the Group.
• Review contracts other key business documents to confirm the accuracy and completeness of indirect tax terms and treatment.
• Proactively identify GST risks and incidents through engagement with the business and data analytics, investigate and resolve incidents via root cause analysis and corrective action, and maintain a register of indirect tax issues and incidents.
• Monitor legislative changes, ATO rulings and industry developments to assess their impact on Suncorp's indirect tax positions.
• Prepare technical position papers, tax opinions and briefing materials for review and sign-off by the Head of Tax.

**What You'll Bring**

• More than 10 years' experience in tax consulting within a large corporate environment or Big Four firm, with strong exposure to indirect tax compliance, advisory and governance matters.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams, with an ability to build capability and deliver strong outcomes through others.
• Experience managing relationships with tax regulators and external advisors, including complex reviews, audits and regulatory engagements.
• Proven ability to provide strategic tax advice and influence decision-making across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering across functions and building trusted relationships at all levels of an organisation.
• A disciplined approach to service delivery, regulatory obligations and risk management, ensuring commitments are met accurately and on time.
• Experience within insurance or financial services will be highly regarded.
