**Position Summary**
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for supporting accurate, timely, and compliant tax reporting across multiple entities. This role prepares and reviews income tax, sales and use tax, real estate tax, personal property tax, and related accounting workpapers while maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting effective tax compliance processes. The position partners with internal accounting and finance teams, external advisors, and business leaders to ensure tax matters are handled with accuracy, consistency, and sound judgment.
**Essential Functions & Responsibilities**
**Income Tax Compliance**
- Prepare federal and state income tax returns and supporting workpapers for S corporations, partnerships, and select C corporations.
- Analyze book-to-tax differences, state apportionment, and other tax adjustments to support accurate reporting.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation supporting filed positions, calculations, and workpapers.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and monitor deadlines to support timely completion of returns, estimates, extensions, complex filings, and related compliance requirements.
**Sales and Use Tax**
- Prepare and review multi-state sales and use tax filings to support accurate and timely compliance.
- Reconcile sales tax payable accounts and verify accurate reporting of tax collected, accrued, and remitted.
- Identify and communicate potential sales and use tax exposure, including process gaps, reporting inconsistencies, taxability questions, exemptions, and documentation needs.
- Support ongoing efforts to standardize indirect tax compliance processes across entities and jurisdictions.
**Real Estate and Personal Property Tax**
- Prepare and file personal property tax renditions and support real estate tax compliance activities.
- Track assessments, valuations, notices, payment schedules, and filing deadlines across applicable jurisdictions.
- Assist with property tax assessment reviews, appeals, valuation inquiries, and related documentation.
- Partner with internal teams to gather asset, property, and entity information needed for accurate filings.
**Real Estate Accounting**
- Maintain and support accounting for real estate entities, including monthly close support, reconciliations, and journal entries as needed.
- Review financial statements for real estate companies for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Support proper capitalization, cost basis tracking, expenditure classification, entity-level reporting, account analysis, and documentation for tax and financial reporting purposes.
**Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise**
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or CPA-track status preferred.
- Three to five years of progressive tax and/or accounting experience, preferably in public accounting, corporate tax, or a multi-entity environment.
- Strong income tax compliance experience, with passthrough entity experience preferred, and working knowledge of sales and use tax, property tax, and general tax compliance processes.
- Experience reviewing financial statements and supporting entity-level accounting; real estate accounting experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
- Ability to manage multiple entities, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining confidential information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, and ability to work effectively with internal teams and external advisors.
