**Job Description:**
**Senior Tax Accountant**
**Location:** India
**Experience:** 5+ years of tax experience
**Preferred background:** Big 4 (India)
**Role Summary**
We are looking for an experienced, technically strong tax professional to join our tax team as a Senior Tax Accountant. This is an individual-contributor role that combines full ownership of India statutory tax compliance — withholding tax, GST, corporate income tax, and audits — with Rest-of-World (ROW) quarter-end and year-end tax provisioning and close coordination with regional and global tax teams.
The role suits a qualified Chartered Accountant with more than five years of direct and indirect tax experience, ideally gained at a Big 4 firm in India or within a large multinational. Beyond preparing and reviewing deliverables, the Senior Tax Accountant acts as a senior reviewer and coordination point — performing peer review of returns, monitoring audits, reviewing contracts for tax implications across entities, and partnering with the India Accounting Manager on general accounting matters. It offers meaningful global exposure alongside deep India technical work.
**Key Responsibilities**
**India Direct Tax & Compliance**
- Prepare and file corporate income tax (CIT) returns and computations, including current and deferred tax, evaluation of the concessional tax regime (Section 115BAA), and advance tax instalments (15 June / 15 September / 15 December / 15 March).
- Coordinate transfer pricing documentation and Form 3CEB filings, along with SFT (Form 61A) and responses to assessment, scrutiny, and notice proceedings.
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all applicable Indian direct and indirect tax laws (Income-tax Act, GST law, ICDS); maintain the compliance calendar and monitor legislative and regulatory changes for operational impact.
**India Withholding Tax (TDS/TCS)**
- Manage end-to-end TDS/TCS compliance, including deduction at the correct sections and rates, monthly challan payments, and quarterly e-TDS/TCS returns (Form 24Q, 26Q, 27Q, 27EQ).
- Issue Form 16 / 16A certificates and reconcile deductions with Form 26AS and the books of account.
**India Indirect Tax (GST/VAT)**
- Prepare and file monthly and annual GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, and GSTR-9 / 9C).
- Reconcile input tax credit per books against GSTR-2B to prevent ITC leakage; manage GST refunds, e-way bills, HSN classification, and vendor reconciliations.
**Tax Reporting & Provisioning (ROW – India Focus)**
- Prepare and review current and deferred tax provisions for quarter-end and year-end close for ROW entities with an India focus, including annual tax computations, effective tax rate (ETR) reconciliations, and return-to-provision (true-up) adjustments under Ind AS 12 / ASC 740 / IFRS as applicable.
- Prepare tax journal entries, tax account reconciliations, and tax footnotes/disclosures for statutory financial statements.
**Contracts, Audit & Review**
- Review commercial contracts, vendor arrangements, and intercompany agreements across entities from a tax perspective — assessing withholding tax treatment and rates, tax-treaty (DTAA) eligibility including Tax Residency Certificate and Form 10F requirements, GST place-of-supply and reverse-charge implications, and permanent-establishment risk on cross-border payments.
- Monitor and coordinate statutory audit, tax audit (Section 44AB — Form 3CA/3CB and 3CD), transfer pricing audit (Form 3CEB), and GST audit / annual return; manage information requests and liaise with auditors, consultants, and revenue authorities.
- Perform peer / second-level review of tax returns, computations, reconciliations, and other deliverables prepared by team members to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and alignment with group standards before filing.
**Business Partnering & Support**
- Partner with regional and global tax and finance teams, local finance controllers, and external advisors to gather data, align tax positions, and deliver accurate, timely reporting across time zones.
- Support the India Accounting Manager on general accounting and month-end close activities, including tax journal entries, GL reconciliations of tax accounts (income tax, deferred tax, GST, TDS), and statutory reporting.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Required**
- Chartered Accountant (CA / ICAI) qualification.
- More than 5 years of relevant experience in Indian direct and indirect tax compliance and advisory.
- Strong working knowledge of the Income-tax Act, 1961, GST law, and applicable accounting/tax standards (Ind AS, ICDS, IGAAP).
- Hands-on experience managing tax compliance, provisioning, audits, and assessments.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Excellent communication, drafting, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work under compressed close and statutory deadlines and across global time zones.
**Preferred**
- Experience gained at a Big 4 firm in India (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG) or within a large multinational / Global Capability Center.
- Exposure to US GAAP (ASC 740) and/or IFRS tax accounting and provisioning.
- Familiarity with tax technology platforms (e.g., Thomson Reuters OneSource, Corptax) and analytics tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI).
- Experience coordinating with global/regional tax teams and reviewing cross-border transactions.
**Core Competencies**
- Technical depth across India direct and indirect tax, with sound judgment on complex positions.
- Accuracy and thoroughness in preparing and reviewing tax deliverables.
- Strong ownership and follow-through across a busy statutory calendar and multiple entities.
- Effective collaboration with regional, global, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to review others' work constructively and mentor junior team members.
**What We Offer**
- Competitive compensation with performance-linked rewards.
- Comprehensive medical, life, and accident insurance for you and your family.
- Learning and professional development, including global exposure across multiple jurisdictions.
- An inclusive, collaborative culture with clear paths for career progression.
