This is a high-impact tax strategy role focused on maximizing incentives and improving capital efficiency across a rapidly expanding infrastructure footprint.
You will serve as a subject matter expert on state and local tax incentives, exemptions, and credits affecting data center operations.
The role combines hands-on execution with strategic advisory work across tax, real estate, infrastructure, legal, and finance teams.
You will evaluate incentive opportunities, build financial models, manage applications, and oversee complex multi-jurisdictional negotiations.
You will also coordinate external tax, legal, and economic development advisors while maintaining strong internal controls and compliance.
Your work will directly influence site selection decisions, infrastructure investments, expansion plans, and long-term tax strategy.

Accountabilities
Serve as the primary tax liaison for business initiatives, identifying tax implications early in contract negotiations, site selection activities, and operational changes.
Evaluate state and local data center tax incentives, exemption programs, statutory credits, and other opportunities across existing and potential infrastructure locations.
Manage end-to-end incentive applications, tax filings, and sales/use tax exemption registrations directly for standard statutory programs.
Coordinate external tax advisors, legal counsel, and economic development consultants on complex incentive negotiations, site selection engagements, and specialized jurisdictional matters.
Develop financial models covering tax savings, capital expenditure thresholds, return on investment, and other factors to support site selection and infrastructure investment decisions.
Partner with Real Estate, Infrastructure, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to assess tax implications and communicate recommendations clearly to non-tax stakeholders.
Manage the ongoing compliance lifecycle for secured incentives, tracking capital expenditures, power utilization, job creation commitments, and other requirements to prevent clawbacks.
Administer sales and use tax exemption certificates and direct-pay permits for qualifying server, storage, GPU, cooling, and power equipment purchases.
Maintain tax-related internal controls, reconciliations, and data integrity while supporting recurring audits and compliance reviews.
Monitor legislative developments, state incentive programs, statutory changes, and emerging green-energy tax opportunities to identify risks and potential savings.
Requirements
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in U.S. State and Local Tax (SALT), with specialization in location incentives, indirect tax exemptions, or corporate state tax planning.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Direct experience with state data center incentive frameworks, sales/use tax equipment exemptions, and property tax abatements.
Strong financial modeling capabilities, with the ability to translate complex tax regulations into clear financial projections and business recommendations.
Proven experience managing external service providers, accounting firms, law firms, tax advisors, or consulting teams while maintaining project milestones and budget efficiency.
Strong understanding of state and local tax regulations and the ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to non-tax stakeholders.
Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-moving infrastructure environment.
CPA or JD preferred.
Previous experience with a State Department of Revenue, State Economic Development Agency, or local taxing authority is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple jurisdictions, competing priorities, and complex incentive initiatives with strong attention to detail.
