We are partnering with a highly respected CPA firm in Brea, California (just south of Los Angeles) seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join their team. This firm focuses heavily on family-owned businesses, working closely with individual owners on complex tax, estate planning, and wealth management matters.
This is a highly visible, client-facing leadership role with a clear path to ownership/partne**r** for the right individual.
What's the role?
Senior Tax Managers provide strategic leadership within the tax practice while overseeing complex engagements and developing people and processes.
- Manage a portfolio of closely held business clients and serve as their trusted tax advisor
- Review and oversee complex tax returns including individuals, S corporations, C corporations, and trusts
- Provide strategic tax planning and advisory services with a focus on estate planning and wealth management considerations
- Lead and supervise a tax team, including coordination with offshore staff (India-based team members)
- Make key decisions related to client strategy, tax positions, and team development
- Build and maintain strong client relationships as the primary point of contact
- Mentor and develop team members while ensuring high-quality deliverables and deadlines are met
- Support firm growth initiatives and contribute to long-term leadership strategy
What experience and skills do I need?
- 10–15+ years of experience in public accounting, with strong exposure to:
- Individual taxation
- S corporations & C corporations
- Trusts and estate-related tax matter
- Experience working with closely held or family-owned businesses is highly preferred
- Background in a larger public accounting firm with at least 5–10 years in similar client environments
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and communicate complex tax matters clearly
- Experience supervising and leading teams (including remote or offshore staff is a plus)
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to work independently and confidently
- Active CPA required; Master's in Taxation or similar advanced degree preferred
- Desire and long-term interest in progressing to an **ownership/partner role**
Work Environment & Location
- Based in Brea, CA (candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance)
- Hybrid schedule with an expectation of 3–4 days per week in the office
