Senior Tax Strategist
Role description
From the employer**About Uplinq**
Uplinq is the AI-powered bookkeeping and tax automation platform built for small business owners. We’re re-engineering how entrepreneurs manage their finances, replacing manual bookkeeping, rules, and spreadsheets with intelligent automation that delivers real-time clarity and control. We’re a Series A startup backed by top investors, growing fast. Our team is lean, execution-focused, and allergic to fluff. We measure success in demos booked, pipelines created, and revenue influenced.
**About the Role**
Uplinq is looking for a Sr. Tax Strategist to step up as the manager of our Strategy team, reporting to the VP of Tax.
The VP will set the vision and design strategy program; your job is execute, scale, and continuously improve it.
This is a player-coach role: you'll carry a full meeting load and be responsible for the people, systems, and partnerships that help the whole Strategy function scale.
This role exists to give Strategy the dedicated management and hands-on development effort that Tax leadership, balancing both compliance and strategy, doesn't have the bandwidth to provide alone.
If you're a CPA who leads with credibility, genuinely loves client relationships, and gets excited (not nervous) about AI changing how this work gets done, this role is built for you.
**What You'll Do**
**Lead the Strategy Team**
- Manage and mentor a team of 3: two Tax Strategy Admins and one Tax Strategy Advisor, setting the standard for
quality, consistency, and client care.
- Serve as the technical and professional escalation point for the team's toughest strategy questions.
- Build development plans and growth paths for direct reports, including the path from Advisor (EA-level) toward CPA-
level strategy work.
**Own Client Strategy, Personally**
- Carry your own full book of business: lead up to 12 client strategy meetings per week, modeling the standard you
expect from the team.
- Deliver advanced, holistic strategies - tax minimization, estate planning, business succession, and insurance alignment.
**Execute & Scale the Strategy System**
- Partner with the VP of Tax to execute, scale, and continuously improve the strategy program the VP designs, turning it
into the day-to-day system the team runs on - so clients get consistency instead of an ad hoc experience.
- Pull in ideas and input from the Tax Strategy Advisor and the rest of the team to strengthen the system as it scales.
- Develop and drive a proactive scheduling plan that gets every client on the calendar, rather than relying on clients to
reach out.
- Continuously refine SOPs and playbooks so the Strategy team's output stays consistent as we scale.
**Build the Referral Partner Bench**
- Build and maintain a curated library of vetted referral partners - debt/tax resolution, legal, insurance, investment
advisory, and other specialties - so clients' needs get solved end-to-end, even when they fall outside our core services.
- Own the relationships with key referral partners and evaluate new ones as client needs surface.
**Leverage Elite Tech & AI**
- Use our strategy stack - including TaxPlanIQ and Maverick - and actively integrate AI tools (ChatGPT, TaxGPT, and
similar) into research, communication, and strategy development.
- Champion AI adoption across the Strategy team; you should be genuinely excited about what AI unlocks for this work,
not just tolerant of it.
**Collaborate for Execution**
- Partner with the compliance/prep team so strategies you and your team design are flawlessly executed on the
return.
**Qualifications**
- Active CPA license required - this is a credibility requirement for high-net-worth client strategy work (distinct from
our Advisor-level role, which is EA-credentialed).
- 5+ years of progressive tax strategy experience in public accounting or a high-growth advisory environment.
- Proven experience designing and implementing complex tax and wealth strategies for business owners, not just filing
returns.
- Prior people-management experience required - you'll be managing a team that includes a tenured advisor (15+ years
of experience), so credibility has to come from technical depth and leadership presence, not just title.
- Track record of executing and scaling a process or system, not just following someone else's.
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer-facing skills; genuinely personable and empathetic to the challenges small
business owners face.
- AI-excited: highly tech-forward, eager to adopt and champion AI tools to increase your own and your team's
efficiency.
- Comfortable thriving in a fast-paced, rapidly scaling remote startup environment.
**Why Join Us**
- Competitive pay + health, dental, vision, 401(k), and life insurance
- Remote-first and flexible work culture
- Clear path for career growth in a fast-growing firm
- Modern tech stack and automation-first mindset
- Supportive, collaborative team with strong systems and documentation
**Compensation**
The pay range for this role is $120,000-$140,000 USD per year (Remote, United States)
