The Payroll Tax and Garnishment Specialist will be responsible for administering payroll garnishments and support multistate payroll tax compliance by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing of wage attachments, tax filings, reconciliations, and W-2 reporting. This position will collaborate with Payroll, HR, Legal, and Finance to resolve employee inquiries, maintain audit-ready documentation, support regulatory compliance, and identify process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.

Responsibilities

Garnishments (Primary Focus): Process and administer all wage attachments in-house, including but not limited to child support, tax levies, creditor garnishments, and student loans. Current active volume is approximately 250+ wage attachments. Responsible for ensuring garnishments are processed accurately in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

Interpret and apply multistate garnishment orders in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Calculate withholding amounts accurately and ensure timely remittance to agencies and courts. Maintain garnishment records, documentation, and audit-ready files.

Respond to employee inquiries related to garnishments with professionalism and discretion. Communicate directly with courts, attorneys, and government agencies regarding orders, amendments, and terminations. Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting wage garnishments and recommend updates to procedures as needed.

Payroll Tax Compliance: Collaborate with other Payroll Tax Analysts to complete payroll tax filings, payments and reconciliations for 24 legal entities in almost all 50 states. Assist with processing approximately 20,000 W-2s. Maintain documentation, standard operating procedures, and audit support files.

Provide resolution to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Collaboration & Process Improvement: Partner closely with Payroll, HR, Legal, and Finance teams. Assist with audits and internal reviews related to garnishments and payroll taxes.

Participate in special projects, automation and internal process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree Major: Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field Degree must be from an accredited college or university. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field from an accredited college or university. In lieu of higher education, the ratio is 1:1, meaning one year of college equals one year of work

experience

or vice versa. Certifications and/or Licenses: FPC or CPP is beneficial, but not required Customarily has at least three years of garnishment or payroll tax

experience

with a willingness to develop in both areas.

Experience

with in-house garnishments or payroll tax (not managed by a third-party provider) is preferred. This position requires the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines. Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. Intermediate Excel knowledge (pivot tables, V- or XLOOKUP, data import and extraction).

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience

supporting payroll operations across multiple states. Prior

experience

working in a high production-oriented payroll environment. Familiarity with audits or compliance reviews related to garnishments or unemployment claims. Additional Data Employee
