Reporting to the Treasurer, this position is responsible for the preparation and filing of income tax, sales tax and other compliance filings for a multi-state, multi-divisional organization. For those filings which are outsourced, this position is responsible for assuring the accuracy of those filings. Position is also responsible for cash flow analysis and projections.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects with deadlines.
  • Prepare income tax work papers for outside preparer.
  • Review federal and state returns for completeness and accuracy.
  • Track receipt of refunds and resolution of post-filing issues.
  • Prepare estimated and extension payment work papers for outside preparer.
  • Assure that all returns and filings are signed and timely filed.
  • Stay abreast of federal and state tax law changes and analyze impact of such changes on the company.
  • Determine Book/Yax differences (Schedule M).
  • Calculate and record monthly tax provisions and associated tax liability account activity. Reconcile related accounts.
  • Prepare sales tax files for uploading to outside preparer.
  • Review and approve returns prepared by outside preparer.
  • Prepare and file returns not prepared by outside preparer.
  • Assure that all payments are made and properly recorded. Reconcile related accounts.
  • Oversee exemption certificate processes for customers and suppliers.
  • Address technical and mechanical sales tax issues as they arise, problem resolution.
  • Assure that all annual reports, business licenses, etc. are filed and paid on a timely basis.
  • Manage outsourced annual reporting and registered agent process.
  • Resolve registration and licensing issues, including the need for any additional filings.
  • Provide schedules and support for annual financial audits.
  • Manage tax audits.
  • Monitor daily cash activity and reporting.
  • Prepare cash flow, borrowing base and debt projections.
  • Review Forms 5500 from outside preparers and approve for signature.
  • Fulfill organizational document requests.
  • Monitor record retention compliance.
  • Special projects as the needs arise; other duties as assigned throughout the Finance Department.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related discipline, minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA helpful but not required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel (including Pivot Tables) Access and Word as well as other software products.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems and on-line filing platforms.
  • Ability to think strategically and critically to solve problems and to constantly improve processes and procedures.
  • High standards of accuracy, attention to detail and ability to work under the pressure of deadlines with the skill to manage prioritization of potential conflicting tasks and requirements.
  • Ability to work with team members in a hands-on management capacity.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • High degree of organization skills.
  • Normal office environment, close and distant vision, using hands and fingers to handle and feel, talk and hear, sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs. frequently. Standing and walking, lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
