Here is how the Sr. Tax Accountant/Tax Specialist role will impact our business:
Tax accountant or Specialist prepares routine tax filings, and is responsible
for federal, state and local non-income tax reporting matters, including tax
returns, budgets, account reconciliations, schedules, extensions, payment of
taxes due and estimated tax payments.
The Sr. Tax Accountant/Tax Specialist responsibilities include but are not
limited to
- Compliance & Filing
- Prepare and file routine sales/use tax, property tax, and other non-income
tax returns accurately and on time
- Gather and organize source data needed for filings (invoices, fixed asset
records, accounting data, sales data)
- Maintain and monitor the tax compliance calendar to ensure no missed
deadlines
- Process tax payments and confirm timely remittance to relevant jurisdictions
Data & Reconciliation
- Reconcile tax data against general ledger accounts and source systems
- Identify and resolve discrepancies between reported data and supporting
documentation
- Maintain organized, audit-ready files and documentation for all filings
Research & Analysis
- Research basic taxability questions (e.g., whether a product/service is
taxable in a given jurisdiction)
- Monitor changes in tax rates, rules, or filing requirements in assigned
jurisdictions
- Support senior staff with research for more complex tax questions or planning
projects
Audit & Notice Support
- Respond to and organize documentation for tax notices from state/local
jurisdictions
- Assist with gathering support during audits (invoices, exemption
certificates, reconciliations)
- Track and follow up on outstanding notices or open audit items
Process & Systems
- Maintain proficiency in tax software and systems (e.g., Quorum, Tax Research
software, Databricks, PTMS)
- Help identify opportunities to improve or streamline compliance processes
- Keep internal trackers/spreadsheets updated for filings, payments, and
deadlines
Required Experience and Skills
- 1 – 5 Years of experience
- Bachelor's Degree required, accounting focus preferred
- Understanding of accounting, analytical skills
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft products
- Organizational and attention to detail skills
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Remote working experience
- Non-income or indirect tax experience
Remote work is being considered for this role excluding the following states:
California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts,
Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee unless willing to relocate.
Selected incumbent will be placed into the position that best suits their
abilities and experience level.
