ABOUT THE ROLE
As a State Tax Investigation Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to build relationships with clients and tax agencies while providing full-spectrum representation for taxpayers with various tax issues. You will work closely with state agencies and the IRS to ensure cases are handled effectively and efficiently.
In this role, you will manage and update cases, submit Power of Attorney forms, maintain accurate records, and provide excellent service and support to clients and internal teams.

Base Pay: $24.00–$26.00 per hour
Monthly Bonus: Average bonus potential of $800 - $1,200
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Tax Investigations
- Conduct tax investigations with state agencies.
- Conduct IRS tax investigations through the Transcript Delivery System and by telephone.
- Update cases based on information received during investigations.
- Upload tax transcripts to client case files and update case statuses accordingly.
- Power of Attorney Processing
- Submit Power of Attorney forms online to the IRS and state tax agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of submitted authorizations.
- Follow up on submissions as needed to ensure cases continue progressing.
- CRM & Case Management
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes in the CRM system.
- Track case activity, progress, and required next steps.
- Complete assigned tasks within required deadlines.
- Manage a large caseload while prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Client & Departmental Collaboration
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients.
- Communicate with the IRS and state tax agencies regarding client cases.
- Collaborate with tax professionals, sales representatives, clients, and other internal departments.
- Provide excellent service and support to clients and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE
- Active CTEC certification.
- At least two years of experience using CRM and tax-management systems.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage a large caseload and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong work ethic, accountability, and attention to detail.
- High school diploma or GED, two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
