Role description

From the employer

We are seeking a detail-oriented Tax Administrator to provide administrative and compliance support to the Tax Department. The role will assist with preparing, submitting, tracking, and following up on tax-related matters for clients, ensuring accurate records, timeous submissions, and effective communication in line with internal procedures and SARS requirements.

The successful candidate will support the Tax and Accounting Department by assisting with tax returns, SARS registrations and queries, client follow-ups, document management, compliance tracking, and general departmental administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tax administration and client support for individuals, companies, trusts, and other client entities.
  • Maintain accurate client tax records, update client information, and follow up on outstanding documents and information.
  • Assist with the preparation, checking, and submission support of income tax and provisional tax returns where required.
  • Assist with SARS registrations, profile updates, correspondence, verifications, reviews, audits, and related queries.
  • Monitor tax deadlines, compliance schedules, outstanding submissions, payments, and SARS responses.
  • Escalate complex tax matters, approaching deadlines, or compliance risks to the relevant senior team member.
  • Maintain organised electronic and/or physical tax files, including returns, assessments, correspondence, payment confirmations, and supporting documents.
  • Support internal tax department administration and perform additional tax administration tasks as requested by management.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Certifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Certificate, diploma, or studies towards a qualification in taxation, accounting, bookkeeping, or financial administration would be advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of SARS eFiling is advantageous.

Experience working with GreatSoft

Computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Minimum Experience

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in tax administration, accounting administration, or a similar administrative role.

Experience working on SARS eFiling

Experience with GreatSoft

Experience handling client documentation, deadline tracking, filing, and follow-ups.

Experience in an accounting, audit, tax, or professional services environment would be beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

  • Knowledge of tax administration processes and SARS compliance requirements would be beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-up.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to monitor deadlines, prioritise tasks, and work under pressure during peak tax periods.
  • Professional handling of confidential client tax and financial information.
  • Reliable, organised, accountable, and able to provide accurate administrative support to the tax team.
