Role description

From the employer

The mission: Baubap is looking for a Tax Manager to lead and strengthen our tax function in Mexico, reporting directly to the CFO. The role’s primary mandate is to ensure accurate and timely tax compliance, resolve historical and emerging tax matters, manage interactions with fiscal authorities, and establish stronger controls and processes. Our immediate priority is compliance and tax risk management.

Tax planning and optimization are valuable, but secondary to strong experience in remediation, audits, investigations, tax controversy, and dealings with Mexican fiscal authorities. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a purely advisory or supervisory position. The expected outcome: This role will suit someone who is energized by the opportunity to bring order to a fast-moving environment.

You are naturally structured, but not rigid. You do not need every process to be mature, every responsibility to be perfectly defined, or every piece of information to arrive neatly packaged before you can make progress. You take initiative, ask the right questions, connect the dots, and turn unresolved issues into a clear path forward.

You are also genuinely hands-on. You can lead others, but you are equally willing to roll up your sleeves and get into the work when the situation requires it. You operate well autonomously, take ownership through completion, and see building stronger processes as part of the job, not as a reason the job cannot be done.

Lead federal and local tax compliance, including ISR, IVA, payroll taxes, withholdings, CFDI requirements, and informational filings. Ensure accurate and timely tax filings, payments, reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Investigate and remediate historical tax issues, inconsistencies, and control gaps.

Serve as Baubap’s primary internal contact with SAT and other fiscal authorities. Lead tax audits, reviews, investigations, disputes, and tax controversy matters. Coordinate litigation and administrative proceedings with external counsel when required.

Assess tax exposures and establish clear remediation plans. Develop tax policies, controls, technical criteria, and review procedures. Provide practical tax guidance on products, commercial initiatives, compensation arrangements, and strategic decisions.

Support the tax implications of Baubap’s potential transition to a SOFIPO. Manage external tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel. Improve tax processes through automation, ERP capabilities, and stronger data validation.

Lead and develop the tax team while remaining directly involved in execution. Identify compliant tax planning opportunities once core compliance priorities are under control. Preferred Additional Qualifications and Experience: Substantial experience managing Mexican tax compliance.

Deep knowledge of ISR, IVA, payroll taxes, withholdings, CFDI requirements, and applicable local taxes. Proven experience managing tax audits, fiscal authority requests, investigations, disputes, and tax controversy. Direct experience interacting with SAT and other Mexican fiscal authorities.

Strong understanding of tax accounting, reconciliations, provisions, filings, payments, and CFDI information. Ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions. Hands-on experience reviewing calculations, filings, reconciliations, and technical positions.

Experience leading a tax function and coordinating cross-functional teams. Ability to work autonomously in a remote and fast-moving environment. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax Law, Law, Finance, or a related field.

Strong communication skills in Spanish and English. What Makes Someone Exceptional For This Role: Experience in a Big Four firm or another recognized tax advisory or audit firm. Experience in a complex, high-volume, or rapidly changing organization.

Experience with ERPs, tax platforms, and automation tools. Experience developing tax controls, policies, and compliance processes. Experience managing external tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel.

Experience in financial services, SOFOMs, SOFIPOs, fintechs, or another regulated business.
