From the employer

Company Overview

STACK Infrastructure builds, owns, and operates hyperscale and colocation data centers that power the world’s most ambitious technology companies. With a rapidly expanding footprint across APAC, STACK combines deep development expertise, flexible capital, and operational discipline to deliver critical digital infrastructure at scale.

Our clients include the largest hyperscale cloud platforms. We are building a regional platform defined by speed of delivery, power reliability, and long-term partnership — and we are assembling the team to lead that effort.

Role overview

STACK APAC is seeking an experienced, commercially minded Tax Director to lead its regional tax function. Based in Singapore and reporting to the CFO, APAC, the Tax Director will be responsible for tax strategy, structuring, governance and compliance across the Group’s operations in Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

This will be an individual contributor role working closely with local finance teams and regional finance leadership.

Key responsibilities

Tax strategy, structuring and advisory

Lead the development and implementation of the Group’s APAC tax strategy, aligned with the Group’s commercial, investment and financing objectives.

Advise on the tax-efficient structuring of investments, development projects, acquisitions, disposals, reorganisations, financing arrangements and intercompany transactions.

Provide practical, timely advice on cross-border tax matters, including withholding taxes, permanent establishment risk, treaty access, repatriation of profits, indirect tax and transfer pricing.

Support Legal and commercial teams in reviewing contracts, customer arrangements, procurement structures and other transactions with material tax implications.

Identify tax risks and planning opportunities arising from changes in legislation, tax authority practice, business operations and new markets.

Manage external tax advisers on material advisory, structuring and transaction work, ensuring advice is commercially focused, proportionate and implemented effectively.

Tax compliance, reporting and governance

Own and oversee the regional tax compliance calendar and ensure accurate, complete and timely filing, payment and reporting across Australia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.

Oversee corporate income tax compliance and provisioning, including current and deferred tax reporting, tax disclosures and coordination with the financial reporting and audit process.

Oversee indirect tax compliance, including GST, consumption tax, sales and service tax, stamp duty and other transaction taxes, as applicable.

Oversee employment tax compliance, including payroll taxes, fringe benefits tax, employee share plan tax matters, social security-related obligations and expatriate tax matters where relevant.

Lead the Group’s transfer pricing framework, including intercompany pricing policies, local-file/master-file documentation, country-by-country reporting where applicable, and implementation of intercompany agreements.

Establish and maintain a robust regional tax control framework, tax risk register, policies, documentation standards and governance processes.

Ensure appropriate tax accounting positions are taken, documented and supported, including uncertain tax positions and tax contingencies.

Tax authority, audit and stakeholder management

Lead tax audits, reviews, enquiries, rulings and disputes, working with local finance teams and advisers to resolve matters efficiently and protect the Group’s position.

Develop constructive working relationships with relevant tax authorities, where appropriate.

Act as the central tax contact for the CFO, senior leadership, external auditors, lenders, investors and advisers on APAC tax matters.

Present concise tax updates, material risks, cash tax forecasts and key decisions to senior management and governance forums.

Team, process and capability building

Build a scalable regional tax operating model, including clear ownership between the central tax function, country finance teams and external advisers.

Drive process improvement, automation and use of technology to improve the quality, efficiency and visibility of tax compliance and reporting.

Manage the tax budget and adviser spend across the region.

Experience and qualifications

10+ years’ relevant tax experience, gained in a combination of a Big Four or leading professional services firm and an in-house regional or multinational environment.

Strong technical knowledge of corporate income tax, international tax, transfer pricing and indirect taxes in an APAC context.

Demonstrated experience advising on cross-border structuring, financing, acquisitions, disposals and complex intercompany arrangements.

Experience managing tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including tax accounting and audit processes.

Direct experience in Australia, Japan, Malaysia and/or Singapore is strongly preferred. Experience navigating tax matters in Japan and Malaysia, including working effectively with local advisers, would be particularly valuable.

Experience in infrastructure, real estate, data centres, energy, construction or another capital-intensive project environment is advantageous.
