Tax Manager
Role description
From the employerThis is a remote position.
About the Firm
We are representing a rapidly growing, modern tax advisory firm focused on tax planning for 1099 physicians. The firm provides clients with comprehensive tax planning and full-service accounting, supported by a structured team-based (pod) service model.
About the Role
We are looking for a Tax Manager to serve as a background review resource supporting multiple client pods across the firm. Unlike a pod leader who owns a book of clients end-to-end, this role is primarily technical: reviewing complex returns and providing review capacity to pod leaders so they can stay focused on client-facing advisory work. There's also room for this person to flex into a more hands-on advisory support role. The ideal candidate has strong individual (1040) review chops, especially with multi-entity, multi-K-1 physician clients, plus solid experience reviewing pass-through entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide background review support across several pods, helping pod leaders keep pace with review volume during peak periods.
- Review complex individual (1040) returns for physician clients, frequently involving multiple K-1s from real estate partnerships and other pass-through investments alongside an operating company.
- Review pass-through entity returns.
- Provide review support on trust (1041) returns; low volume and trainable on the job.
- Partner closely with pod leaders to maintain accuracy, tax-readiness, and consistent quality standards across a range of client complexity.
- Support and mentor preparers within the scope of review work.
Requirements
- 5+ years of public accounting experience
- CPA or EA license preferred.
- Strong technical experience reviewing complex 1040s, ideally including physician or high-earning professional clients with multiple K-1s and pass-through entities.
- Experience reviewing S-Corp (1120-S) Partnership (1065) returns.
- Willingness to learn/review trust and C-Corp returns as needed.
- Comfortable operating as a review-focused support resource across multiple pods rather than owning a single client book.
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage review workload across varying levels of complexity and multiple pod leaders' priorities.
- Desire to take on advisory level work as needed.
Benefits
- Competitive salary
- Generous PTO, including a firm-wide closure during the last two weeks of the year.
- Healthy work hours year-round, with slight increases during busy season.
