Tax Partner
Role description
From the employer##### **About the Role**
At the Partner level, moving firms isn't about finding another place to do the same work. The platform, economics, autonomy, and opportunity to grow have to make sense.
A well-established public accounting and advisory firm in San Diego is looking to add an experienced Tax Partner as part of the continued growth of its tax practice.
This opportunity is designed for an established tax leader who has built meaningful client relationships and wants the infrastructure and resources of a full-service firm without sacrificing ownership of the relationships, referral network, and market presence they've spent their career developing.
The firm is particularly interested in someone with an established portable book of business of approximately $1M+ who wants the opportunity to continue building from it.
**Compensation:** $300,000–$400,000+ in annual compensation, with additional upside based on portable revenue, client growth, profitability, and overall production.

- Serve as the senior relationship owner and trusted advisor to privately held businesses, business owners, executives, investors, and high-net-worth individuals
- Advise clients on complex tax planning, entity structuring, transactions, ownership transitions, succession planning, and other significant business matters
- Maintain senior-level oversight of complex partnership, pass-through, corporate, individual, trust, and related tax engagements
- Develop new business through existing relationships, referrals, centers of influence, and broader market activity
- Expand existing relationships by identifying opportunities across tax, accounting, assurance, and advisory services
- Build and maintain relationships with attorneys, bankers, wealth advisors, and other professional referral sources
- Own client pricing, engagement economics, realization, profitability, and overall relationship strategy
- Lead and develop Principals, Senior Managers, Managers, and other emerging firm leaders
- Recruit and attract experienced professionals as the practice continues to grow
- Collaborate with other Partners to pursue new opportunities and expand cross-functional client relationships
- Play an active role in strategic decisions around the continued growth and direction of the tax practice
- Contribute to broader firm leadership, market development, and long-term growth initiatives
##### **Qualifications**
- 12+ years of progressive public accounting tax experience
- Current Partner, Principal, Managing Director, or equivalent senior leadership experience
- CPA required
- Established portable book of business of approximately $1M+ in annual client revenue
- Proven track record of originating, retaining, and expanding significant client relationships
- Strong network of referral sources and centers of influence
- Significant experience advising privately held and middle-market businesses and their owners
- Strong technical background across partnerships, pass-through entities, corporations, and individual taxation
- Extensive tax planning and advisory experience beyond traditional compliance
- Experience advising clients around transactions, structuring, succession, ownership changes, and other complex business matters
- Demonstrated ability to generate new revenue and expand relationships beyond an inherited client portfolio
- Strong commercial understanding of pricing, profitability, realization, and practice economics
- Proven ability to build teams and develop the next generation of firm leadership
- Executive presence and credibility with business owners, C-suite executives, and other senior decision-makers
- Established San Diego / Southern California relationships are highly valuable
Why This One Is Worth a Conversation
If you've already built a successful practice, another Partner title isn't enough reason to move.
The question is whether a different platform gives you more opportunity to grow what you've built.
This firm offers the infrastructure, talent, and broader service capabilities to support an established book while giving senior leaders meaningful autonomy around their clients, relationships, and continued business development.
You'll have the ability to deepen existing relationships across multiple service lines, continue developing your own market and referral network, build a team around your practice, and have a meaningful voice in where the firm goes next.
For an established Partner or Principal who has built a strong book but feels constrained by their current platform—or simply wants greater control over the next stage of their practice—this is an opportunity worth exploring.
All inquiries will be handled confidentially.
