**Position Overview:**

The Tax Supervisor – Estate & Trust Team is an accountant capable of taking responsibility for most estate, trust, gift, and related individual tax engagements. This position is capable of supervising concurrent engagements and has demonstrated advanced technical, professional, and personal skills. Performance is evaluated based on quality and accuracy of work, application of estate and trust tax knowledge, supervision of personnel as assigned, and the ability to meet time and budget constraints, as well as client deadlines.

**Essential Functions:**

  • Performs a broad range of estate, trust, gift, and individual tax assignments and assumes responsibility for engagements so that direct participation of Managers and Shareholders is kept to a minimum.
  • Demonstrates competency in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and Firm standards.
  • Meets time and budget constraints and client deadlines.
  • Participates in planning, scheduling, and staffing client engagements.
  • Directs, instructs, and trains where applicable.
  • Prepares and reviews complex fiduciary income tax returns, including Form 1041 and related beneficiary reporting.
  • Prepares and reviews complex individual income tax returns, including returns for high-net-worth individuals, fiduciaries, and beneficiaries.
  • Prepares and reviews estate and gift tax returns, including Forms 706 and 709, as assigned.
  • Reviews estate and trust financial activity, distributions, deductions, income allocations, and supporting documentation.
  • Assists with fiduciary accountings and tax matters related to estate and trust administration.
  • Reviews and corrects tax returns and workpapers prepared by fellow staff members.
  • Follows review notes, makes corrections as requested, and minimizes future incidents of corrections.
  • Follows up on extended returns, amended returns, tax notices, and other post-filing matters.
  • Conducts research regarding estate, trust, gift, fiduciary, and individual tax matters as needed.
  • Participates in client solutions and communication.
  • Communicates with clients, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, attorneys, financial advisors, and team members in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Prepares correspondence to clients and regulatory agencies for approval and signature of a Manager or Shareholder.
  • Identifies tax-planning opportunities and matters requiring consultation with a Manager or Shareholder.

**Other Functions:**

  • Develops an understanding of and adheres to Firm policies and procedures, including, as appropriate, the Firm’s Quality Control document.
  • Assumes primary responsibility, under supervision, for assigned engagements.
  • Pursues continuing professional education and upgrades accounting and tax skills, including attending CPE and remaining familiar with developments from the IRS, Congress, the AICPA, and other applicable authorities.
  • Maintains knowledge of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, as appropriate for the position.
  • Participates in local civic, charitable, business, and other organizations.
  • Achieves at least the minimum annual productivity budget for chargeable hours, chargeable percentage, and realization.
  • Demonstrates the ability and desire to secure new business for the Firm.
  • Effectively bills and collects charges from clients for whom the Supervisor acts as Bill Manager and/or Primary Partner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

**Required Experience and Skills:**

  • Proficiency with tax preparation programs, spreadsheets, word processing, and tax research tools.
  • Current knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations related to estates, trusts, gifts, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and individuals.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing Forms 1040, 1041, and 706.
  • Experience with Form 709 and fiduciary accountings preferred.
  • Ability to interpret wills, trust documents, financial records, tax documents, and related supporting information.
  • Demonstrates sound critical thinking, professional judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Displays the self-motivation to request and successfully complete assignments and special projects that further develop technical expertise.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and provide constructive feedback to less-experienced team members.
  • Conducts themselves with integrity in a responsible and professional manner and appearance.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing deadlines.

**Required Education:** Bachelor’s in accounting or related field

**Required Experience:** 5 years progressive experience in public accounting, including meaningful experience with estate, trust, fiduciary, gift, and high-net-worth individual taxation.

**License/Certification:** CPA preferred

**Working Requirements:**

  • Occasional travel for meeting with clients or to attend seminars or staff meeting using a personal vehicle is likely.
  • Occasional overtime is expected throughout the year and heavy overtime is required from January through April.

Compensation: $80,000.00 - $102,000.00 per year
