International Tax in Germany focuses on the taxation of cross-border activities and investments involving German entities or individuals, as well as foreign entities operating within Germany. This includes navigating German tax laws, double taxation treaties (DTA), EU tax directives, and supranational tax initiatives such as BEPS.
Germany has an extensive network of over 95 double taxation treaties, making DTA interpretation a core skill. Key legislation includes the Einkommensteuergesetz (Income Tax Act), Körperschaftsteuergesetz (Corporation Tax Act), and Außensteuergesetz (AStG) for inbound/outbound situations, CFC rules, and transfer pricing documentation. The Bundeszentralamt für Steuern (BZSt) is the competent authority for international tax matters, including mutual agreement procedures.
