Michigan Personal Income Tax refers to the taxation of income earned by individuals residing in or earning income from sources within the state of Michigan. This includes state-level income tax filings, estimated tax payments, and the claiming of various credits and deductions unique to Michigan.
Michigan imposes a flat-rate individual income tax. For 2023, the rate was 4.25%, and it is set to decrease further to 4.05% for 2024. Michigan residents are subject to tax on all income, while non-residents are taxed only on income sourced to Michigan. Several cities, including Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Lansing, also impose their own income taxes, which must be filed separately with the respective city treasuries. The Michigan Department of Treasury handles statewide income tax administration.
