Tax Director
Role description

management, property operations, development, construction, leasing, and
technological innovation. RXR is an active investor in real estate credit,
rental housing, commercial property, and property technology through value-added
and opportunistic investment strategies.
Tax Director
The Tax Director serves as RXR's senior internal tax executive and primary
relationship manager for external tax providers. Operating within a highly
outsourced tax model, the role is responsible for tax compliance oversight,
identifying tax issues, coordinating external advisors, evaluating
recommendations, and ensuring tax considerations support business objectives.
The Tax Director partners closely with Investments, Legal, Finance, and
executive leadership on transactions, fund formations, restructurings, and
strategic initiatives while overseeing tax governance, risk management, and
advisor performance. The role is also responsible for developing and maintaining
tax forecasts and planning strategies for RXR and its owners to support
financial planning, capital allocation, and executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance Oversight
- Oversee the outsourced tax compliance process, including scope, timelines,
deliverables, issue escalation, and coordination among internal stakeholders.
- Apply an exception-based review approach focused on material transactions,
special allocations, significant tax positions, and other identified risks
rather than detailed review of each return.
Strategic Tax Advisory
- Advise Investments, Legal, Asset Management, and Finance on material tax
considerations related to acquisitions, dispositions, financings,
developments, fund formations, and joint ventures.
- Identify tax risks early, frame issues for external advisors, evaluate their
recommendations, and translate the implications for business decisions.
Transaction & Advisor Management
- Coordinate and oversee external advisors responsible for transaction
structuring, tax analyses, and due diligence.
- Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely, practical,
and commercially aligned recommendations.
- Oversee advisor performance, work quality, responsiveness, scope, and
cost-effectiveness.
Corporate Tax Planning & Forecasting
- Lead tax planning and forecasting for RXR's parent company and its owners,
including projected taxable income, effective tax rate, and cash taxes.
- Partner with Finance and executive leadership to incorporate tax
considerations into budgeting, long-range planning, capital allocation, and
strategic initiatives.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to evaluate planning opportunities and
update tax forecasts as the business evolves.
Fund & Entity Strategy
- Support fund launches, investment vehicles, REITs, joint ventures, and other
entity structures.
- Coordinate tax diligence and maintain institutional knowledge of the firm's
fund, investment, and legal entity structures.
Tax Governance & Risk
- Monitor relevant tax developments; assess and escalate material risks;
oversee tax audits and regulatory matters; and maintain governance over
significant transactions and tax positions.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as the central tax liaison across Investments, Legal, Accounting,
Finance, Investor Relations, and executive leadership.
- Participate in investment and transaction discussions and communicate
material tax considerations and advisor recommendations to stakeholders.
Qualifications
Experience
- 15+ years of tax experience in real estate, private equity, asset management,
public accounting, law, or a combination thereof.
- CPA
- Strong knowledge of partnership taxation, real estate funds, REITs, joint
ventures, and investment structures.
- Experience managing external advisors and complex transaction processes.
Leadership
- Strong commercial judgment and project management skills.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex tax issues
into practical business advice.
- Effective collaborator who thrives in a cross-functional, advisor-led
environment.
The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of
potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for
this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the
future. When determining a team member's base salary/rate, several factors may
be considered as applicable (e.g. location, years of service, specialty,
education, relevant experience).
Bonus eligible.
Pay Range
$290,000—$310,000 USD
