Role description

From the employer

Headquartered in New York with a nationally-scaled platform, RXR is a 450+

person, vertically integrated investment manager with expertise in a wide array

of value creation activities, including acquisitions, asset and portfolio

management, property operations, development, construction, leasing, and

technological innovation. RXR is an active investor in real estate credit,

rental housing, commercial property, and property technology through value-added

and opportunistic investment strategies.

Tax Director

The Tax Director serves as RXR's senior internal tax executive and primary

relationship manager for external tax providers. Operating within a highly

outsourced tax model, the role is responsible for tax compliance oversight,

identifying tax issues, coordinating external advisors, evaluating

recommendations, and ensuring tax considerations support business objectives.

The Tax Director partners closely with Investments, Legal, Finance, and

executive leadership on transactions, fund formations, restructurings, and

strategic initiatives while overseeing tax governance, risk management, and

advisor performance. The role is also responsible for developing and maintaining

tax forecasts and planning strategies for RXR and its owners to support

financial planning, capital allocation, and executive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance Oversight
  • Oversee the outsourced tax compliance process, including scope, timelines,

deliverables, issue escalation, and coordination among internal stakeholders.

  • Apply an exception-based review approach focused on material transactions,

special allocations, significant tax positions, and other identified risks

rather than detailed review of each return.

Strategic Tax Advisory

  • Advise Investments, Legal, Asset Management, and Finance on material tax

considerations related to acquisitions, dispositions, financings,

developments, fund formations, and joint ventures.

  • Identify tax risks early, frame issues for external advisors, evaluate their

recommendations, and translate the implications for business decisions.

Transaction & Advisor Management

  • Coordinate and oversee external advisors responsible for transaction

structuring, tax analyses, and due diligence.

  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely, practical,

and commercially aligned recommendations.

  • Oversee advisor performance, work quality, responsiveness, scope, and

cost-effectiveness.

Corporate Tax Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead tax planning and forecasting for RXR's parent company and its owners,

including projected taxable income, effective tax rate, and cash taxes.

  • Partner with Finance and executive leadership to incorporate tax

considerations into budgeting, long-range planning, capital allocation, and

strategic initiatives.

  • Coordinate with external tax advisors to evaluate planning opportunities and

update tax forecasts as the business evolves.

Fund & Entity Strategy

  • Support fund launches, investment vehicles, REITs, joint ventures, and other

entity structures.

  • Coordinate tax diligence and maintain institutional knowledge of the firm's

fund, investment, and legal entity structures.

Tax Governance & Risk

  • Monitor relevant tax developments; assess and escalate material risks;

oversee tax audits and regulatory matters; and maintain governance over

significant transactions and tax positions.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Serve as the central tax liaison across Investments, Legal, Accounting,

Finance, Investor Relations, and executive leadership.

  • Participate in investment and transaction discussions and communicate

material tax considerations and advisor recommendations to stakeholders.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 15+ years of tax experience in real estate, private equity, asset management,

public accounting, law, or a combination thereof.

  • CPA
  • Strong knowledge of partnership taxation, real estate funds, REITs, joint

ventures, and investment structures.

  • Experience managing external advisors and complex transaction processes.

Leadership

  • Strong commercial judgment and project management skills.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and translate complex tax issues

into practical business advice.

  • Effective collaborator who thrives in a cross-functional, advisor-led

environment.
