
VITA Tax Preparation Assistant (CSLP FWS)
Role description
From the employerPosition Summary/Purpose: Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships
with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of
their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in
the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or
to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs.
GCU maintains a partnership with Rehoboth CDC at 2650 W. Hazelwood Street,
Phoenix, AZ, 85017. Rehoboth CDS’s mission is to improve the quality of life for
low- to moderate-income families in Phoenix and the Canyon Corridor
neighborhoods. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours
of operations and needs of Rehoboth CDC; however, CSLP student workers may not
work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring).
CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as
defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined
as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community
residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems
related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the
community.
As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU
community members (i.e., local residents).

Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:
The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Tax Preparation Assistant will
actively participate in tax return preparation. Applicant must be available
between May and June on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 8pm and Saturdays
from 8am to 3pm.
- Complete mandatory Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Site Coordinator, and
Advanced Tax Law Training.
- Participate in tax return preparation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with
IRS guidelines.
- Support troubleshooting issues with tax returns and follow-up on any
discrepancies or problems.
- Assist with volunteer recruitment.
- Assist in overseeing volunteer schedules, training, and certifications.
- Facilitate communication between volunteers and ensure timely dissemination
of IRS updates and alerts.
- Assist in compiling monthly reports and tracking volunteer hours.
- Provide administrative assistance in organizing volunteer appreciation
events.
- Help maintain and manage equipment and supplies needed for the site.

- Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
- Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Previous Mentoring a plus.
- Ability to speak a second language a plus.
Experience/Education
- Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all

student employment
- Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a bachelor’s program or master’s
program.
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level
student.
- Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
