Position: US Tax Accountant

Role Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented US Tax Accountant with 2–3 years of hands-on experience in US federal and state taxation. You will prepare and review tax returns, support compliance and planning activities, and work closely with clients or internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely filings in line with IRS and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation and Compliance

Prepare and file federal and state income tax returns for individuals (Form 1040), partnerships (Form 1065), C-corporations (Form 1120), and S-corporations (Form 1120-S)

Prepare estimated tax payments, extensions, and related supporting schedules

Handle sales and use tax, payroll tax, and information return filings (1099s, W-2s) as required

Ensure compliance with IRS and state tax deadlines and regulations

Tax Research and Planning

Research federal and state tax issues and summarize findings for senior team members

Support tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities within legal boundaries

Stay current with changes in US tax laws, IRS guidelines, and state legislation

Accounting and Documentation

Analyze general ledgers, trial balances, and financial statements to prepare accurate tax workpapers

Prepare book-to-tax reconciliations and identify permanent and temporary differences

Assist with tax provision calculations (ASC 740) where applicable

Maintain organized documentation and audit trails for all filings

Client and Stakeholder Support

Respond to client queries regarding tax matters in a timely, professional manner

Coordinate with clients to gather documents and information for returns

Assist in responding to IRS and state notices and audits

Review and Quality Control

Review returns prepared by junior staff (where applicable) for accuracy

Perform self-review checks and flag discrepancies before submission

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field

Experience

  • 2–3 years of experience in US taxation (public accounting, tax outsourcing, or corporate tax)

Working knowledge of US federal and multi-state tax compliance

Certifications (Preferred)

CPA (US), Enrolled Agent (EA), or CMA / CA / CPA (India) with US tax exposure; candidates pursuing these qualifications are also welcome

Technical Skills

Proficiency in tax software such as Drake, UltraTax CS, CCH Axcess, Lacerte, ProConnect, GoSystem Tax RS, or ProSystem fx

Strong command of MS Excel (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, reconciliations)

Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuite

Working knowledge of practice management and document tools (e.g., SurePrep, Canopy, Karbon)

Core Competencies

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Good written and verbal communication in English

Ability to manage multiple deadlines, especially during peak filing season

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team

Integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive financial data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with international tax forms (5471, 5472, 8858, FBAR, FATCA)

Exposure to multi-state and partnership taxation

Experience working with US clients in an offshore or outsourced environment

Working Conditions

Extended hours may be required during peak tax seasons (March–April and September–October)

Willingness to work in US time zone overlaps, if applicable
