Role description

From the employer

Crimson Education is the world’s leading college admissions consulting firm, with over 1,490 Ivy League offers and 2,410 to the US Top 15. We help ambitious students gain admission to the world’s top universities through expert-led guidance and proven, data-driven strategies. Crimson students are 7x more likely to get into the Ivy League than their peers. We were recently featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal.

Crimson is the only college admissions consultancy that brings together:

Former Ivy League and Top 20 admissions officers to rigorously review and refine applications

Professors and PhD teaching fellows from leading universities to guide students through original, independent research — with pathways to selective peer-reviewed publication or conference presentation

Past ISEF winners and judges who coach students to compete for state, national, and international science fair awards

Capstone project mentors who help students design and scale leadership initiatives with real-world impact, measurable outcomes, and credible external validation

We’re backed by leading VC firms, including Tiger Global, Heal Partners, IceHouse Ventures, and Movac, and recently closed a USD $40M Series D funding round at a USD $640M valuation. We now operate across 21 markets worldwide, including the US, Canada, UK, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Role

Crimson Consulting Limited is seeking an experienced Global Tax Manager to lead the organisation’s

international tax function. This role will take ownership of global tax compliance, coordinate external advisors across multiple jurisdictions, manage the consolidated year-end group tax calculation, oversee

transfer pricing matters, and build out stronger tax governance practices across the group. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who brings both technical depth and hustle, and who enjoys shaping how tax governance is done as much as executing on it.

What are the main responsibilities for this role?

Global Tax Compliance

Own and maintain a master compliance calendar covering all tax filing obligations across every jurisdiction in which the group operates, this includes income tax, GST/VAT and other sales taxes, withholding tax, FBT, and any other indirect or transaction-based taxes applicable in each market

Manage and oversee the timely and accurate completion of all filings against that calendar, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks as the group's footprint grows

Act as the primary point of contact for tax matters, ensuring filing obligations are tracked, met, and appropriately documented

Monitor legislative and regulatory change across the group's key markets, with particular attention to areas that create new or shifting compliance obligations, such as employee share scheme (ESOP) rules and the associated reporting and withholding requirements that flow from them

Translate legislative change into practical action, flagging new filing obligations early and building them into the compliance calendar before they become a risk

Advisor Coordination

Serve as the central coordination point for external tax advisors across multiple countries

Manage advisor relationships, scopes of work, fees, and quality of output

Ensure consistency of approach and advice across jurisdictions

Year-End Group Tax Calculation

Lead the preparation of the consolidated group tax calculation, this is a key workstream of the role, including current and deferred tax positions across all group entities

Work closely with the finance and financial reporting teams to ensure tax figures are accurately reflected in group accounts

Support external audit processes as they relate to tax

Transfer Pricing

Provide oversight of the group's transfer pricing policies and documentation

Ensure intercompany arrangements are appropriately documented and defensible

Liaise with advisors on transfer pricing studies, benchmarking, and local file requirements

Tax Governance

Introduce and embed tax governance principles and frameworks appropriate to the size and structure of the organisation

Enhance internal tax policies, procedures, and risk management practices

Build tax risk awareness across the business and support a culture of proactive compliance

Establish reporting lines and controls that give leadership visibility over the group's tax position

Mergers & Acquisitions

Act as the lead tax contact on M&A activity, including acquisitions, disposals, restructures, and new entity establishment across the group's markets

Undertake or coordinate tax due diligence on target businesses, identifying tax risks, exposures, and structuring considerations ahead of deal completion

Advise on the tax-efficient structuring of transactions, working with external advisors on complex or unfamiliar jurisdictions

Manage the tax aspects of post-deal integration, including bringing acquired entities into the group's compliance calendar, tax governance framework, and reporting processes

Review and input on transaction documents (sale and purchase agreements, warranties, and indemnities) from a tax perspective

What skills and experience are required?

This role would likely suit someone with

A minimum of 6 years tax experience, including time in a Big 4 or mid-tier professional services firm, and/or in-house experience in a multinational or group tax function

Demonstrated experience managing tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions

Practical exposure to transfer pricing concepts and documentation requirements

Experience working with external advisors across different countries, and comfort managing those relationships directly

Involvement in year-end tax provisioning or group tax reporting processes, ideally with exposure to NZ IFRS or equivalent

Exposure to M&A activity from a tax perspective, whether through due diligence, deal structuring, or post-acquisition integration, either in practice or in-house

A tertiary qualification in accounting, commerce, law, or a related field

CA/CPA (or international equivalent) is highly desirable

Experience building or improving tax governance frameworks would be a strong advantage, though not essential if the candidate shows the right judgement and initiative to develop this over time

Personal Attributes to look for

A blend of technical rigour and hustle, someone who can get their hands dirty on a complex filing one day and chase down five advisors across five time zones the next

Strong communicator who can translate technical tax matters for non-tax stakeholders

Organised and process-minded, given the coordination-heavy nature of the role and the number of moving filing obligations across markets

Proactive rather than reactive, someone who monitors for legislative change ahead of time rather than discovering a new obligation after the fact

Pragmatic and commercially minded as well as technically proficient
