The North Investment Operations team is responsible for the financial transactions of all North investment and superannuation products. As a Reconciliations Lead, you'll play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of investment data, strengthening operational controls and ensuring reconciliation processes remain robust, scalable and fit for purpose.
**How you’ll make an impact**
The Senior Analyst – Platform Tax operations is a senior subject matter expert responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy and regulatory compliance of taxation outcomes across North investment and superannuation products. This role provides technical leadership for tax operations, acts as the key escalation point for complex tax matters and partners with Technology, Product, Risk and Group Tax to ensure taxation requirements are accurately reflected within operational processes and platform functionality. The role is expected to identify tax risks, influence platform design, drive process improvements and ensure accurate investor and member tax outcomes.
In this role, you will
- Lead and oversee tax operational processes to meet member, investor and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to operational teams on taxation matters.
- Lead year end tax reporting project that involves the tax classification of investment income from listed trust , managed funds, and domestic and foreign securities. Reporting of the taxable income to investment clients via IDPS tax statements
- Ensure accurate reporting of investment income through the AIIR report to ATO
- Review and advise on the tax treatment of corporate action events, including demergers, restructures, returns of capital, capital reductions, takeovers, scrip-for-scrip events, trust distributions and special dividends. Tax technical support will be available through tax policy team where needed.
- Determine tax and cost-base implications of corporate action events for North platform products.
- Support system implementation and testing of corporate action tax outcomes.
- Validate cost-base impacts and investor reporting consequences.
- Partner with custodians and external providers to obtain required tax event data and evidence.
- Lead implementation activities arising from taxation legislation and regulatory changes.
- Conduct and oversee testing of platform enhancements and software releases to ensure compliance of tax
- calculations with documented tax procedures.
- Maintain and enhance tax procedures, controls and governance documentation.
- Understanding of withholding tax principles for residents and non-residents investment income and correct implantation in the platform business rules
- Design and operate tax checks over third-party tax data received from custodians, fund managers, registries and other providers.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex tax queries, incidents and tax treatment issues
**What you will bring to the team**
Ideally, you'll bring
- Minimum 10+ years experience in Tax Operations within a Custody, Platform Administration, Wealth Management or Financial Services environment.
- Demonstrated experience operating as a senior tax specialist or subject matter expert within a complex operational environment.
- Deep understanding of tax processes, taxation controls and reporting requirements.
- Extensive experience processing End of Year (EOY) tax components and annual tax reporting obligations.
- Proven experience managing tax-related activities with external custodians and service providers.
- Strong understanding of Australian taxation legislation and investment taxation reporting obligations.
- Understanding of the corporate action event processing and taxation implications of corporate actions.
- Strong understanding of wealth management products and investment operations processes.
- Experience leading testing, implementation and operationalisation of business and technology changes.
- Intermediate to advanced SQL skills desirable.
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Commerce or related discipline
