Tax Attorney — Real Estate Private Equity
About the Role
- We are seeking a tax attorney to join our in-house tax team, reporting directly
- to one of the co-heads of tax for the real estate business. This individual will
- serve as a key advisor across our real estate investment platform, partnering
- with investment professionals and members of our private wealth and
- institutional client services teams on a wide range of matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise investment professionals within the real estate business on federal,
state, local and foreign tax planning for acquisitions, dispositions,
refinancings, and recapitalizations
- Partner with private wealth and institutional client services teams on new
product development, including fund formation and structuring
- Analyze and advise on tax-efficient holding structures for domestic and
cross-border real estate investments, including REIT, partnership, and joint
venture structures
- Monitor and assess the impact of legislative and regulatory developments on
existing and prospective investments
- Support tax due diligence efforts in connection with new investments and
platform acquisitions
- Coordinate with external tax counsel and accounting advisors on transaction
execution
- Review tax-related provisions in merger agreements, purchase and sale
agreements, partnership agreements, subscription documents, side letters, and
other fund and transaction documentation
Qualifications
- JD from a top-tier law school
- Active bar membership in good standing
- 4+ years of experience at a nationally recognized law firm
- Strong working knowledge of Subchapter K, real estate investment trusts,
section 1031 exchanges and FIRPTA
- Experience advising institutional investors, including sovereign wealth
funds, pension plans, and tax-exempt entities
- Translate complex tax concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-tax
professionals
- High degree of intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and manage
multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment

Expected annual base salary range
- $150,000 - $250,000
- Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components
- including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications
- and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the
- posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process
- based on local market comparables.
- Additional compensation and benefits offered in connection with the role consist
- of comprehensive health benefits, including but not limited to medical, dental,
- vision, and FSA benefits; paid time off; life insurance; 401(k) plan; and
- discretionary bonuses. Certain employees may also be eligible for equity and
- other incentive compensation at Blackstone’s sole discretion.
