German Corporate Tax encompasses the taxation of corporations and other legal entities resident or operating within Germany. This includes the Körperschaftsteuer (corporate income tax), Gewerbesteuer (trade tax), and solidarity surcharge (Solidaritätszuschlag), along with various other related tax obligations.
German corporate tax law is complex, with key taxes being the Körperschaftsteuer (KSt) at a flat rate of 15% and the Gewerbesteuer (GewSt), a municipal trade tax, which varies significantly by commune (typically between 7% and 17% effective rate). A solidarity surcharge (Solidaritätszuschlag) of 5.5% on the KSt due is also levied. Tax returns (Körperschaftsteuererklärung, Gewerbesteuererklärung) are filed annually with the Finanzamt (tax office) and are generally due by July 31st of the following year, though extensions are common.
